    About Us

SpeakUp! is a nonprofit committed to fostering honest conversations between teens and adults to build stronger relationships and strengthen emotional well-being. Over the past 26 years, we have reached over 40,000 students and families through school- and community-based programs in the Greater Philadelphia area and New Jersey.

    Position Overview

The Development Coordinator will help SpeakUp! build and manage the systems, processes, and donor information needed to support stronger fundraising, stewardship, and long-term growth.

This role is ideal for someone who enjoys both systems and relationships. In the first phase, the Development Coordinator will focus heavily on donor records, gift processing, acknowledgments, reports, grant deadlines, campaign materials, fundraising calendars, and follow-up tracking. As these systems become stronger, the role is expected to include more opportunities to participate in donor stewardship, cultivation support, events, and selected donor engagement activities.

The ideal candidate is highly organized, detail-oriented, proactive, comfortable with databases and technology, and able to engage professionally and confidently with donors, Board members, volunteers, and community partners.

    Roles and Responsibilities:

    Development Operations

    • Serve as the primary administrator of the donor database, currently DonorPerfect.
    • Maintain accurate donor, funder, sponsor, and prospect records, including ongoing data entry, data cleanup, quality control, and adherence to established coding and documentation practices.
    • Process gifts, acknowledgments, and donor correspondence.
    • Generate donor lists, campaign lists, reports, dashboards, and fundraising metrics.
    • Manage fundraising calendars, deadlines, tracking tools, follow-up systems, and development procedures.

    Fundraising, Grants, and Stewardship Support

    • Research prospective individual, corporate, foundation, and community funding opportunities.
    • Prepare donor profiles, meeting briefs, research, and follow-up materials.
    • Support donor stewardship, including acknowledgments, impact updates, recognition, thank-you calls, and event follow-up.
    • Assist with campaign coordination, sponsorship outreach, annual appeals, and fundraising initiatives.
    • Support the research, writing, submission, and tracking of grant applications and funder reports.
    • As experience and organizational systems develop, assume increasing responsibility for selected donor stewardship and engagement activities.

    Communications, Board, and Event Support

    • Draft, edit, and proofread fundraising materials, donor communications, presentations, reports, and correspondence.
    • Support development-related website content, email communications, donor recognition materials, and printed fundraising materials.
    • Coordinate logistics, materials, and follow-up for Board Development Committee meetings, donor meetings, fundraising meetings, and events.
    • Attend selected donor, fundraising, and community events.

    Qualifications and Attributes

    • Bachelor’s degree required.
    • Commitment to SpeakUp!’s mission and to supporting diverse and inclusive communities.
    • At least five years of full-time professional experience, including three years of nonprofit development or closely related experience.
    • Experience with donor databases or CRM systems required; DonorPerfect experience preferred.
    • Strong proficiency with Microsoft 365, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and shared file systems.
    • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
    • Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, follow-through and the ability to manage multiple priorities.
    • Demonstrated ability to build positive relationships with donors, volunteers, board members, and community partners and a willingness to represent the organization externally.
    • Demonstrates sound judgment, discretion, and ability to handle confidential information professionally.
    • Interest in growing within nonprofit development, including donor stewardship and engagement over time.
