    General Job Description:

    The SONYC Program Assistant role is essential in providing a supportive, enriching, and safe environment for students participating in after-school programs. The role involves a combination of administrative tasks, direct interaction with students, and coordination with staff and external partners to ensure a high-quality experience for all participants. The ideal candidate will be proactive, flexible, and passionate about youth development.

    Responsibilities:

    Administrative Support:

    • Maintain accurate records of attendance, enrollment, and other required documentation.
    • Manage internal DYCD Database
    • Assist with the preparation and distribution of program materials and communications.
    • Manage and organize program supplies and resources.
    • Manage and record paper expenses and receipts.

    Student Engagement:

    • Support daily afterschool operations.

    Coordination and Communication:

    • Serve as a liaison between the program, parents, and school staff.
    • Assist in the scheduling and coordination of special events, field trips, and theater productions etc.
    • Communicate effectively with parents and guardians regarding program details and student progress.

    Program Development:

    • Collaborate with the program coordinator and staff to plan and improve program activities.
    • Provide input and feedback on curriculum and activity planning.
    • Assist in the evaluation and assessment of program effectiveness.

    Professional Development:

    • Participate in training and professional development opportunities as required.
    • Stay informed about best practices in after-school programming and youth development.

    Qualifications:

    • Associate Degree or equivalent; some college coursework in education, youth development, or a related field is preferred.
    • Strong organizational and administrative skills.
    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
    • Ability to work collaboratively with a diverse team and community.
    • Commitment to the mission and values of the SONYC program and RNH
    • Sense of humor and curiosity and ability to work in changing environment
    • Proficiency in Google Workplace (particularly Docs & Sheets)
    • Spanish proficiency preferred
    • Successful Background Check and State Central Registry clearances required including a sign/stamped physical form.

    Work Environment:

    • The position REQUIRES working some evenings and/or weekends: Approximately 4 evenings for registrations and 3 Saturdays for Musical Performance throughout the school year.
    • Must be able to manage a busy and dynamic work environment.
    • This program will work in RNH’s office within the Riverdale Kingsbridge Academy middle.
    • Physical requirements include standing, walking, and participating in various activities with students.
