Make a Lasting Difference in the Fight Against Food Insecurity

Do you have experience working in a food pantry, food bank, or hunger relief program? Are you looking for a meaningful opportunity to use your skills and experience to strengthen your community?

The Community Foundation of South Jersey (CFSJ) is seeking an experienced professional (age 55+) to serve as an Encore Fellow with Catholic Charities of South Jersey (CCSJ). This fellowship offers the opportunity to build systems, strengthen operations, and expand access to food and essential resources for thousands of individuals and families throughout Southern New Jersey.

Rather than filling a traditional staff position, the Encore Fellow will lead a high-impact capacity-building project that will leave Catholic Charities better equipped to serve its communities for years to come.

About Catholic Charities of South Jersey

Catholic Charities of South Jersey is a faith-based nonprofit rooted in the Gospel and the social teaching of the Catholic Church. Serving residents of Atlantic, Camden, Cape May, Cumberland, Gloucester, and Salem counties, CCSJ provides compassionate services that help individuals and families achieve stability, dignity, and hope.

Its Basic Needs Program provides food, diapers, toiletries, household supplies, and other essential items to individuals and families facing financial hardship. The organization is committed to expanding these services and strengthening its food pantry operations to better meet the growing needs of the communities it serves.

    About the Project

The Basic Needs Resource Coordinator will work closely with Catholic Charities leadership and program staff to improve food pantry operations, strengthen inventory management, coordinate distribution of donated goods, and develop sustainable systems that support the organization's expanding Basic Needs Program.

This fellowship is an opportunity to create lasting organizational improvements that will continue benefiting families long after the project is complete.

    What You'll Do

    • Improve food pantry operations at the Atlantic City Family & Community Center.
    • Coordinate inventory of food, diapers, toiletries, and household essentials across six Family and Community Centers.
    • Develop efficient systems for distributing supplies where they are needed most.
    • Organize and maintain food pantry documentation and client records.
    • Help strengthen donor engagement and ensure timely donor acknowledgments.
    • Improve tracking and reporting of in-kind donations.
    • Research best practices for food safety, storage, and distribution and share training resources with staff.
    • Develop and maintain county-specific food pantry and food assistance resource guides.
    • Recommend improvements to CCSJ's Amazon Wish Lists and online donation resources.
    • Support planning and coordination of the Annual Diocesan Food Drive, when applicable.
    • Identify operational improvements that increase efficiency, sustainability, and community impact.

We're Looking For Someone Who Has

    • Experience working in a food pantry, food bank, hunger relief organization, or similar nonprofit program.
    • Strong organizational, planning, and project management skills.
    • Experience with inventory management and coordinating resources across multiple locations.
    • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
    • A collaborative approach and the ability to work independently.
    • A commitment to serving vulnerable individuals and strengthening community resources.

    Requirements

    • Must be 55 years of age or older to participate in the Encore Fellows Initiative.
    • Must successfully complete the Diocese of Camden's Child and Youth Protection and VIRTUS training prior to beginning the fellowship.
    • Ability to travel throughout Catholic Charities' six-county service area.

    To Apply

Please submit the following to Seniorfellow@communityfoundationsj.org:

    • Resume
    • Brief cover letter highlighting your experience and interest in the Project
    • Examples of relevant projects or accomplishments (optional but encouraged)
