The Assistant Vice President of Corporate Relations is housed within NASPA’s Public Relations and Communications team and is responsible for leading the Association’s corporate relations portfolio, including meeting and exceeding annual revenue goals, spearheading new prospects, and overseeing all administrative aspects of the portfolio, including annual benchmarking, contract fulfillment, and budget allocation/tracking. NASPA’s Corporate Relations portfolio supports the Association’s events, special initiatives, and overall operations.
About the Position
The Assistant Vice President of Corporate Relations is an innovative and collaborative leader responsible for identifying new industry partners in areas complimentary to NASPA’s offerings, maintaining records, establishing a rapport across the Association to maximize relationships, and managing the assistant director of digital advertising and fulfillment to ensure contract deliverables. The position will work closely with NASPA’s events team to enhance the exhibitor experience at identified place-based and virtual events, and work collaboratively with the Association’s Research, Policy, and Student Success and Career Pathways areas to align partnership opportunities. The position is responsible for organizing the Corporate Relations portfolio, preparing reports and contracts, maintaining relationships with key partners, generating new prospects, and budget/personnel oversight.
Essential Responsibilities
New Lead Generation and Company Retention/Growth:
- Responsible for generating new business leads, ensuring companies are aligned with NASPA’s value proposition prior to engagement.
- Manage NASPA’s existing partnerships, especially the top 30 companies who represent NASPA’s largest revenue opportunities in the Corporate Relations space. Propose innovative ideas for contract terms to increase revenue annually.
- Use the annual corporate relations survey completed by NASPA’s Research & Policy team to identify recurring themes for implementation.
Contract Term Setting and Fulfillment:
- Oversee accounts receivable, accounts payable, invoicing, collections and coding for all corporate development activity (exhibits, sponsorships, advertising).
- Annually review NASPA’s Advertising Media Kit, which outlines opportunities for digital engagement, including Ads in NASPA’s Leadership Exchange magazine and member email communications, virtual event sponsorships, corporate relation web pages, and more.
- Oversee the assistant director to ensure timely fulfillment of agreed upon contract terms and generate year-end impact reports for top supporters.
Revenue Generation:
- Meet or exceed annual revenue goals.
- Routinely benchmark pricing to ensure the Association’s offerings in the exhibit and sponsorship spaces are competitively priced.
- Maintain excellent records in NASPA’s database as a source of truth for key contacts, prospect lists, and notes. Record and track all commitments, manage acknowledgement of funds received, and continue engaging stewardship of donors.
Event Integration:
- Serve as liaison to NASPA’s sponsors, exhibitors, advertiser, and partners.
- Responsible for the solicitation and selling of exhibit booth space for NASPA’s premier place-based events, with a goal of selling out the exhibit hall floorplan.
- Collaborate with the Assistant Vice President of Events to identify new sponsorship opportunities to enhance the experience for attendees.
- Work with decorating service contractor and NASPA’s Assistant Vice President of Events to create floor-plan layout and other exhibit hall attractions (ex, breaks, headshot lounge, etc.).
- Strategically assign booth assignments for returning/new sponsors. Develop relationships with
- new/returning exhibitors for expanded sponsorship opportunities.
- Proof all exhibit information for the event program guides, website, prospectuses, and related materials.
- Project, manage, and maintain in a timely manner the budget for all place-based items related to Corporate Relations oversight.
Reports To
Vice President of Public Relations and Communications
Qualifications
- Undergraduate degree in business, finance, or related field; master’s preferred.
- 12-15 years of experience in corporate relations, sponsorship, advertising and/or sales revenue generation, preferably in the higher education or Association landscape.
- Demonstrated career progression in portfolio management.
- Extensive experience with sales and revenue management, including budget oversight.
- Past work with place-based events, or exhibitors and sponsorship at events, including floor plans, is preferred.
- Experience managing staff.
- Expertise with project management systems, e.g. Asana, and tracking contract fulfillment.
- Proficiency in Microsoft, Google, and CRM platforms, and ability to learn new systems.
- Strong writing, editing, and verbal communications skills.
- Ability to build rapport with NASPA members and personnel, with experience working directly with people from diverse backgrounds.
Employment Status
Full-time Exempt: Exempt employees by definition are exempt from overtime compensation requirements of the federal Fair Labor Standards Act, and are required to work as the job demands on a no time limit basis.
Candidates must be authorized to work in the U.S. NASPA does not initiate, extend or provide immigration or work visa sponsorship for employment.
Salary Range
The salary range for this position is $130,000-$140,000.

Office Location/Working Conditions/Physical Requirements
Office Location
This position may be based anywhere in the contiguous 48 states.
It is the employee’s responsibility to provide reliable internet capabilities for any work location outside of the Washington, D.C. office.
Travel
Occasional overnight travel to represent NASPA at events, on college and university campuses, and in-person meetings is an essential function of this position. Locations vary and can include sites outside of taxi service from major airports. As a result, the position is required to have the ability to travel independently, including air travel, navigating ground transportation, and occasionally driving a rental car.
Physical Requirements
This position is primarily office-based with primary work on a computer, including phone, email, and video conferencing.
Responsibilities will occasionally require an adjusted work schedule, overtime, and evening/weekend hours to meet deadlines and support events and programs.
This position will be required to coordinate on-site event execution, which may include moving furniture, navigating event spaces, communicating with venue staff, and coordinating on-site signage.
