    Descripción

Neighbors Together is a dynamic community-based organization committed to ending hunger and poverty in the Ocean Hill, Brownsville and Bedford-Stuyvesant neighborhoods of Brooklyn. Our dedicated 13-person staff works closely to support 12,000+ low-income New Yorkers annually through a unique 3-pronged model: healthy food access, connections to housing and life-stabilizing resources, and grassroots organizing led by directly impacted New Yorkers.

Our Community Café provides 600-800 meals daily to anyone in need of emergency food. Our Empowerment Program connects hundreds of individuals and families to vital resources beyond food, with a focus on assisting people to access stable housing and exit homelessness. Our Community Action Program (CAP) works to create a just housing system for low-income and working class New Yorkers by building power through leadership development and member-led campaigns.

Neighbors Together seeks a self-motivated, outgoing full-time Community Organizer to work closely with our Community Action Program (CAP) team to conduct outreach, base building, training, education and leadership development among our members. The organizer will be responsible for increasing membership involvement in city and state campaigns and coalitions working on issues related to building a just housing system and to our mission of ending hunger and poverty.

The Community Organizer will facilitate meetings with member leaders and implement actions and leadership development trainings throughout the year. Additionally, the Community Organizer will work with the Director of Organizing and Policy and member leaders to further current campaign work.

    • Cultivate members to take on leadership roles in CAP. Identify and develop member leaders through regular one-on-ones, facilitation of Neighbors Together’s Leadership Development Trainings, CAP’s Leadership Committee, and other tools for member engagement.
    • Network and coordinate with other groups that are organizing to end homelessness and create affordable housing in New York, and attend campaign meetings on behalf of Neighbors Together.
    • Maintain weekly statistics about outreach and member involvement in CAP using our online database.
    • Collaborate with Neighbors Together staff to provide holistic support to all members.
