    Ansche Chesed, a thriving Conservative synagogue on the Upper West Side of Manhattan, seeks a passionate Engagement Associate to serve as an integral part of its team and to assist in meeting the needs of its growing congregation as it approaches its third century. This is a great opportunity for someone who wants to work in a small collaborative environment, and in a community which values the creativity and growth of each of its team members.

    Position

    We are currently in search of a tech-savvy and highly organized self-starter who has outstanding customer service, time management, administrative and people skills. In partnership with the Executive Director, clergy, and office staff, the Engagement Associate will ensure that Ansche Chesed’s members and prospective members feel seen and heard and are aware of the wide range of ways to participate in the community. This person will serve as a welcoming presence to the synagogue for all members and visitors.

    This individual will be a strong collaborator and problem solver, who approaches their work with flexibility, initiative, and the ability to balance detail-oriented thinking with big picture vision. The successful candidate will be able to handle confidential information appropriately, maintain a courteous and tactful demeanor, and demonstrate patience and kindness towards the diverse community members with whom they will interact.

    Specific responsibilities

    Reception and General Duties

    • Greet visitors warmly in person and by phone
    • Respond promptly, professionally and accurately to a high volume of email from staff, congregants, and others
    • Regularly communicate with members
    • Maintain internal and community digital calendars
    • Provide administrative support to clergy, Executive Director and board of trustees/committees as needed

    Programming & Events Logistics

    • Manage synagogue programming and events from concept through execution in conjunction with clergy, volunteers and staff
    • Coordinate space reservations and rentals, food orders, room preparation, and other logistics for events and programming
    • Coordinate caterers for refreshments following weekly services, working with our volunteer committee, and congregants/members as sponsors of these meals
    • Develop good working relationships with key vendors
    • Prepare run-of
    • show for events as needed
    • Track and report on event and programming engagement

    This position will be part of Ansche Chesed's small staff team that works together to accomplish the synagogue's goals. Responsibilities may be added or changed at the Executive Director’s discretion.

    Qualifications

    • Strong interpersonal skills and customer service mindset and experience
    • High level of personal and professional integrity, with a positive attitude and great attention to detail
    • Desire and ability to multitask and learn new processes/technologies
    • Self-motivated and comfortable working independently, as well as collaborating with others
    • Knowledge of Jewish rituals and culture, life cycle events a plus, but not required
    • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite/Office 365, particularly Outlook, Word, and Excel; experience with ShulCloud is a plus.
    • Bachelor’s degree and two or more years of experience in a relevant nonprofit and/or membership and/or religious organization. This could be a professional role, a significant volunteer role, or a campus/camp leadership role.

    Compensation

    Compensation will be commensurate with the candidate’s experience and qualifications, with an expected salary range of $51,000-$56,000/year.

    We are looking for someone to start full-time on September 2, 2025, if not sooner. This is a hybrid position, with the current expectation of three days in the office from 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM, and the remainder of the week working remotely. This position requires some flexibility to be present at select community programs, on occasional evenings or weekends. Ansche Chesed is located near 96th Street station on the 1/2/3 trains.
