Foodwise Kids Education Coordinator

Foodwise is seeking a part-time Education Coordinator to support our Foodwise Kids program under the direction of the Youth Education Manager. This involves running elementary school field trips, grades 1-5, on Tuesdays and Thursdays at the Ferry Plaza Farmers Market in San Francisco.

Responsibilities

Support Youth Education Manager with Foodwise Kids. The Foodwise Kids (FWK) program runs throughout the school year (about 15 weeks in the fall and 18 weeks in the spring) and summer (9 weeks), every Tuesday and Thursday morning at the Ferry Plaza Farmers Market at the Ferry Building in San Francisco.

This position will be expected to:

• Facilitate elementary school field trips to the Ferry Plaza Farmers Market on Tuesday and Thursday mornings to encourage long-term healthy eating habits and a love of fruits and vegetables. Facilitation aspects include welcoming students to the farmers market, direct instruction, food preparation, setup, breakdown and cleanup, and intern and volunteer management, etc.
• Prepare educational materials as directed by the Youth Education Manager to support weekly activities and curriculum in FWK program
• Support with scheduling and communication between FWK and partner schools and organizations
• Support with scheduling paid, annually hired interns and rotating unpaid volunteers
• Support in data collection from surveys for grant reporting
• Suggest and implement program improvements with curriculum testing, feedback, tracking, inventory maintenance, and research
• Working with Foodwise staff to keep Foodwise kitchen, supplies, and pantry clean and organized

About You

You are a passionate and creative educator with a desire to connect and inspire youth to become aware of their role in their local food system. You care deeply about food, the environment, social justice, and community building.

Skills and Qualities for Success in this Role

• At least 2 years experience teaching youth (elementary) and understanding youth development and socio-emotional learning principles, preferably in a kitchen or culinary setting
• Knowledge of/passion for cooking, nutrition, sustainable agriculture, and farmers markets with a DEIJ lens of food and social justice
• Multi-cultural and/or multi-lingual competency and familiarity working with children from diverse backgrounds, particularly in San Francisco; strong preference for a Spanish and/or Chinese language speaker
• Strong interpersonal, communication, and time management skills, and attention to detail, collaborative mentality, and emotional intelligence
• Reliable, punctual, adaptable, and able to work independently with input from supervisors
• A friendly, outgoing nature; comfortable speaking in front of large groups; excellent oral communication and customer service skills
• Ability to perform a job with moderate physicality, in a semi-outdoor environment, with multiple hours of standing and/or walking in farmers market.
• This position works directly with youth and will require a DOJ background check and TB testing. Vaccinations against COVID-19 along with proof of vaccination are required.

Job Parameters

• Type: Part Time, Desired start by September 1, 2026, averaging 10-12 hours/week
• Team: Education, a team of 3 full-time staff, 1 Sustainability Service Corps member, 3-6 college interns
• Reports to: Youth Education Manager
• Direct Reports: The role does not manage the work of others
• Rate of Pay: $25/hr
• Benefits: Sick pay earned at 1 hour for every 30 hours worked.
• Location: In-person at the Ferry Building in San Francisco Tuesdays and Thursdays, 9-2 PM
