    Descripción

    Hinenu Baltimore seeks a full-time (40 hrs/wk) Synagogue Life Coordinator

    to help our synagogue retain, nurture and grow its 300-person

    membership. NOTE: This position is on-site at our office in the Johns

    Hopkins Homewood campus area of Baltimore.

    The Coordinator will do this by:

    • Providing hospitality, access, and safety in-person at our weekly

    Shabbat services;

    • Ensuring volunteer support from the membership for all in-person

    and online/hybrid events;

    • Maintaining our membership database; and
    • Creating content for our internal and external communication

    channels (including our calendar, biweekly email newsletter, and

    social media accounts).

    The Synagogue Life Coordinator reports directly to the Executive Director

    (ED). The work of the Synagogue Life Coordinator supports the work of the

    Executive Director and Hinenu Baltimore’s rabbi, who are accountable for

    building the religious life of the congregation and maintaining the financial

    and operational health of the organization.

    Hinenu Baltimore is a growing community in Baltimore of Jews and their loved

    ones who study, pray, organize, and care for one another. The Synagogue Life

    Coordinator helps Hinenu Baltimore as an organization to uphold and live by

    its values every day. (See the bottom of this job posting for a description of

    Hinenu Baltimore’s values.

    “Front of House” Responsibilities:

    • Provides hospitality, access, space needs, and safety in-person at our

    weekly Shabbat services by (25%):

    • Setting up and cleaning up Shabbat services.
    • Closing the building after clean up, making sure everything is

    away and secured, following established locking up

    procedures. This will be the first person there and the last

    person to leave.

    • Staying up to date on Hinenu’s safety practices and serving as

    a point of contact for members, volunteers, and staff

    concerning our fire emergency & evacuation safety protocols

    and any issues that may arise, including health emergencies.

    • Booking event space with Homewood Friends Meetinghouse.
    • Supporting Hinenu’s High Holidays Services annually as a

    primary in-person host and volunteer coordinator (supported

    by the ED, Tech Lead, and volunteers). Assists with other key

    observances as assigned.

    • Coordinating supply purchasing, inventory, and organization

    (including office supplies, water, ritual supplies, and program

    supplies. Supports the rabbi to ensure that all ritual supply needs

    for adults and youth are met.

    • Maintaining/refreshing the inventory and organization in Hinenu

    Baltimore’s storage space.

    • Coordinating with Access Consultant and/or Events & Programs

    Coordinator when appropriate to follow our accessibility norms.

    “Back of House” Responsibilities:

    • Coordinates volunteers from the membership for Hinenu-Sponsored

    events by (20%):

    • Recruiting and following up with already-trained volunteer

    greeters, meal captains, event captains, Zoom hosts, and other

    volunteers for shabbat services and creating and maintaining

    sign-up sheets using our Neon CRM platform.

    • Supporting the ED in training new volunteer event captains, Zoom

    hosts, and greeters/ushers.

    • Coordinating with Access Consultant and/or Events & Programs

    Coordinator to ensure that event captains and volunteers follow

    our accessibility norms.

    • Maintains Hinenu Baltimore’s membership database by (25%):
    • Supporting the ED in maintaining membership account data, new

    event listings, volunteer and attendance tracking, and

    RSVPs/event ticketing in Neon CRM.

    • Following up with individual members to adjust dues/donation

    amounts and frequency as needed, including lifecycle event

    donation reminders.

    • With the ED, following up with members at the end of each

    calendar year to summarize year-end giving amounts.

    • Creates content for our internal and external communication

    channels by (25%):

    • Maintaining and regularly updating Hinenu’s calendar of events

    and Shabbat pamphlet.

    • Updating the website as needed (with support of the rabbi).
    • Utilizing the organization’s branding guide in posting content 1-3X

    per week to the social media channels.

    • Other duties as assigned (5%).

    Preferred Qualifications:

    • Certified in Adult CPR and First Aid.
    • Able to independently perform physical tasks of set up and clean up,

    including lifting boxes and some furniture, carrying up to 30 lbs, carrying

    items up and down stairs, locking and unlocking heavy doors, and

    sitting at a desk.

    • Able to welcome and interact with all members of the public with

    kindness, awareness, and calm.

    • Able to staff all Shabbat services (currently alternating Friday evenings

    and Saturday mornings).

    • Able to staff all High Holidays services (Erev RH, RH Day 1, RH Day 2, Kol

    Nidre, Yom Kippur, Neilah)

    • Rosh HaShanah: Friday, September 11 – Sunday, September 13,

    2026

    • Yom Kippur: Sunday, September 20 – Monday, September 21, 2026
    • Able to work evenings and weekends as required.
    • Able to perform the duties of safety lead for a congregation in an

    emergency.

    • Proven excellence (1-3 years) in leading volunteers and/or interns for

    in-person operations and projects.

    • Proven excellence in creating and maintaining recordkeeping systems.
    • Proven excellence in maintaining and updating online constituent

    management databases.

    • Proven excellence (1-3 years) in external communications, storytelling,

    and/or corporate branding for nonprofit organizations.

    • Actively demonstrates a commitment to Hinenu Baltimore’s

    organizational values (described below) in the work setting.

    • Fluent in, or able to quickly learn and use, the following tools: Neon CRM;

    Canva; Google for Work (Sheets, Docs, Slides); Squarespace; Slack.

    • Able to maintain calm, positive, and professional demeanor under

    pressure.

    • Proven excellence (1-3 years) in customer service skills such as:

    maintaining professional interpersonal communication,

    troubleshooting and fixing clerical mistakes, answering emails and

    phone calls promptly, tracking down individual transactions, and

    problem-solving to ensure customer satisfaction.

    • Proven excellence (1-3 years) in working as a member of a team in a

    professional setting: has great interpersonal communication skills,

    participates meaningfully in team meetings, supports teammates to

    meet shared priorities, takes the initiative to improve upon

    organizational systems.

    Hours, Benefits and Compensation:

    • This position is salaried at $45,000 annually.
    • New employees must work in the Hinenu office full time for the first 90

    days, and may work a maximum of 2 days per week remotely

    thereafter.

    package, of 13 paid holidays, 18 PTO days (for vacation or sick time), four

    days off each during Sukkot and Passover, and a week off at the end of

    each calendar year.

    • After one year of service, Hinenu Baltimore provides an employer-paid

    retirement contribution.

    This position will work the following hours:

    • Monday through Thursday, 9:30am-5pm (except on weeks with a

    Saturday Shabbat service– see below)

    • Fridays, 9am-3pm
    • Alternating each week: Friday 6pm-9pm or Saturday 9am-2pm. When

    Shabbat services fall on a Saturday, this position will be off one

    additional (consistent) day during the week to ensure 2 days off per

    week.
