    The Organization for Social Media Safety (socialmediasafety.org) is the first and leading consumer protection organization focused exclusively on social media. Through education, advocacy, and technology development, we protect the public against current and emerging social media-related dangers, including cyberbullying, human trafficking, suicide, eating disorders, substance abuse, and misinformation. We teach essential social media skills to students, parents, and educators at K-12 schools across the United States, currently reaching millions of students a year through our existing partnerships. We develop and help pass innovative legislation at all levels of government, including laws we have passed to combat social media-related sexual exploitation, cyberbullying, and social media-motivated violence. We are at the forefront in helping develop and raise awareness of cutting-edge safety technology. We conduct groundbreaking social media safety research in collaboration with major international institutional partners, such as UCLA.     About the Position:

    The Organization for Social Media Safety is seeking a full-time Social Media Safety Educator. Reporting to the Vice President of Programs, this role will work directly with parents/caregivers, educators, and students in grades 4 - 12 across the country to raise awareness of social media-related risk and harms and offer concrete strategies to safely avoid and/or respond to these harms through in-person and virtual educational opportunities.

    Salary: At OFSMS, we believe in salary transparency. The salary range for this position is $75,000 - $88,000, based on experience.

    Location: OFSMS is based in Los Angeles, CA, and uses a virtual office. This position requires extensive travel, including weekly travel to school campuses across the continental United States. When not traveling, this position will work remotely from anywhere in the continental United States. Up to 75% travel. (All travel costs, including transportation, lodging, and per diem, are covered by OFSMS.)

    Employment Type: Full-time, exempt.

    Responsibilities:

    The Social Media Safety Educator will serve as a leader in the field, working directly with students in grades 4 - 12, parents/caregivers, and educators through in-person and virtual instruction and educational facilitation. More specifically, the Social Media Safety Educator will:

    Educate Students, Caregivers, and Educators (75%)

    • Facilitate learning experiences through in-person and virtual interactive assemblies and discussion-based workshops with students in grades 4 - 12, caregivers, and educators.
    • Travel on a weekly basis to K-12 schools nationwide.
    • Support curricular innovation through collaborative research and curricular design.
    • Implement varied pedagogical approaches to ensure accessibility among learners
    • Remain consistently informed on cutting-edge social media safety research and best practices through continuous professional learning.

    Support Sales and Outreach (15%)

    • Provide sales support to the Programming team through outreach efforts and relationship building with partner schools and districts.
    • Connect directly with schools nationwide to raise awareness of the organization’s mission and offerings.
    • Offer virtual office hours, webinars, and other opportunities for K-12 leaders to learn about OFSMS’ work.

    Program Design and Research (10%)

    • Collaborate with the Programming team in ongoing curricular innovations and iterations.
    • Offer research-based feedback regarding programming design and expansion.
    • Engage in writing and editing of OFSMS publications, including blogs, whitepapers, and newsletters.

    Qualifications

    The Social Media Safety Educator will be passionate about OFSMS’ mission of making social media safe for everyone.

    Experience/Requirements:

    • Experience in K-12 teaching and learning is required.
    • Experience collaborating with US K-12 school districts is required.
    • Knowledge of and experience with designing and implementing varied learning experiences with diverse audiences (including large-group in-person presentations, small-group discussions, Socratic seminars, and dynamic online learning) is required.
    • Expertise in adult learning is a plus, but not required.
    • Knowledge of or experience in technology or the social media industry is a plus, but not required.
    • Proficiency in Spanish is a plus, but not required.
    • Must be able and willing to teach and discuss sensitive topics in an age-appropriate manner
    • Must be able to pass a background check (conducted pursuant to all relevant laws and regulations).
    • Must have a valid driver's license and a good driving record.
    • Must be able to travel by air.
    • Must be able to transport presentation materials, such as a laptop, handouts, and lightweight equipment, as needed. (Reasonable accommodations will be made to support qualified individuals in performing these functions.)
