    About Branch Services

    Branch Services is a non-profit organization that empowers adults with intellectual delays and autism to live independently and thrive as active, engaged members of their chosen communities. Our programs create opportunities for participants to build confidence and facilitate successful integration with their communities. We support skill-building around daily routines, personal hygiene, household maintenance, and leisure activities, while supporting each person's unique goals and interests. Branch Services primarily supports those living on-site at the Willow Commons and Thistle Home locations in Portola Valley, California, as well as additional participants through day and activity-based programs.

    Position Summary:

    The Director of Human Resources leads and strengthens all HR functions at Branch Services, building compliant, efficient, and people-centered systems that support staff and the organization's continued growth. This role oversees payroll, benefits, compliance, employee relations, onboarding, staff training, and scheduling, while developing the internal HR infrastructure needed to match Branch Services' expanding mission.

    Key Responsibilities:

    HR Infrastructure & Compliance

    • Build and maintain HR systems, policies, and procedures that ensure compliance with federal, state, and local employment law.
    • Own and continuously update the Employee Handbook and Organizational Policy Manual.
    • Lead accurate recordkeeping, and documentation practices across the employee lifecycle including job descriptions and performance reviews.

    Payroll & Benefits Administration

    • Manage the organization's payroll system and vendor relationship, ensuring accuracy and compliance.
    • Administer employee salary rates and benefits programs, evaluating competitiveness, cost-effectiveness, and compliance.
    • Recommend and implement improvements to payroll and benefits offerings as needed.

    Staff Development & Training

    • Collaborate across departments to assess training needs and maintain an organization-wide training calendar.
    • Design and deliver training on compliance, HR best practices, team effectiveness, and supervisory skills.

    Onboarding & Employee Lifecycle

    • Own the onboarding process from initial job posting to offer to orientation, ensuring compliance and consistency.
    • Continuously evaluate and improve onboarding documentation and practices.
    • Support performance management, employee relations, and offboarding.

    Staffing & Scheduling Oversight

    • Manage the scheduling team, ensuring appropriate staff coverage across programs based on need.
    • Track call-outs, time off, and coverage gaps, and coordinate timely solutions.
    • Partner with program leadership to forecast staffing needs and adjust schedules accordingly.

    Organizational Leadership

    • Partner with the Executive Director and leadership team to align HR strategy with organizational growth.
    • Provide periodic reporting on HR metrics, compliance status, and staff development progress.
    • Build internal HR capacity as the department grows.

    Qualifications:

    Required:

    • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field.
    • Minimum 5 years of HR experience, including work with nonprofit organizations.
    • Strong knowledge of employment law, compliance, and HR best practices.
    • Experience with payroll systems, benefits administration, and policy development.
    • Strong collaborative, mentoring, and communication skills.

    Preferred:

    • Experience in organizations serving individuals with intellectual/developmental disabilities.
    • SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP, or PHR certification.
    • Experience designing and delivering staff training programs.

    Work Environment & Physical Requirements:

    • Primarily office-based, with occasional presence at residential and community sites.
    • Ability to manage sensitive and confidential information with discretion.
    • Some flexibility for occasional evening or weekend availability as needed.

    Compensación

    This is an exempt, full-time position according to the FLSA, with an expectation of approximately 40 hours/week and a salary range of $100,000-$130,000. While office hours are generally 9 am - 5 pm PT, work hours may vary depending on time and events.
