    Position Title: Research Analyst

    Location: Texas, Louisiana, or Washington, DC.

    Date Posted: September 5, 2025

    BACKGROUND ON THE ENVIRONMENTAL INTEGRITY PROJECT

    The Environmental Integrity Project (EIP) is America’s environmental watchdog. We are a nonprofit organization dedicated to protecting public health and our natural world by holding polluters and government agencies accountable under the law. We advocate for tough but fair environmental standards and empower communities fighting for clean air and water.

    Our team of lawyers, analysts, communications staff, and engineers provide support to communities fighting David vs. Goliath battles against some of the biggest polluters in the U.S. We sue not only corporations that don’t follow the law, but also federal and state agencies when they fail to do their jobs protecting the environment.

    POSITION OVERVIEW

    EIP is accepting applications for a Research Analyst to join our team working to hold industrial polluters and federal and state agencies accountable for compliance with the Clean Air Act, Clean Water Act, and other environmental laws. Working with EIP’s team of lawyers and journalists, the Research Analyst will work to reduce pollution from industrial sources through fact-finding, data compilation, and analysis. The duration of employment will be limited to one year with the possibility for permanent hire contingent on funding.

    EIP takes legal action to clean up pollution; we publish data-driven reports that push federal and state regulators to better protect public health; and we work with frontline communities to obtain the protections of our environmental laws. This position will be located in Texas, Louisiana, or Washington, DC and may require occasional travel. EIP has a small office in Washington, DC and staff in over 20 states.

    KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Compile, organize, analyze, map, and visualize data related to air and water pollution;
    • Update databases and websites including Oilandgaswatch.org and Ashtracker.org;
    • Evaluate and summarize information from public records, permit applications, and related documents;
    • Submit public information requests to state and federal government agencies, obtain records, and review responses;
    • Assist with fieldwork and case development, as needed;
    • Communicate findings and methods to general and technical audiences;
    • Write website content, reports, fact sheets, memoranda, and other documents;
    • Develop and/or test informational dashboards; and
    • Carry out other tasks and travel as assigned.

    QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS

    • One year of relevant professional experience (including internships) and a 4-year college degree or higher in environmental sciences, environmental engineering, geography, political science, public policy, pre-law, public health, or a related field.
    • Proficiency with Microsoft 365, including Excel, Word, Teams, Outlook, and SharePoint. Experience manipulating data in R and/or GIS software like ArcGIS or QGIS are a plus.
    • Excellent analytical, research, writing, organizational, oral communication, and interpersonal skills.
    • Excellent attention to detail.
    • Ability to work remotely as part of a fast-paced, interdisciplinary team.
    • Ability and eagerness to solve problems and learn new software and subject matter quickly.
    • English fluency. Spanish fluency is a plus.
    • Valid US driver’s license.
    • Passion for the environment and advancing environmental justice.

    COMPENSATION

    EIP offers competitive salaries, excellent benefits, and a supportive working environment. Salary is based on a nonprofit scale and is commensurate with skills and experience. For this position, the salary range is $55,000-$70,000 per year.
