The Lymphoma Research Foundation seeks an Assistant Controller/Senior Financial Analyst to join the Finance and Operations Department.

The Lymphoma Research Foundation is dedicated to finding a cure for lymphoma, the most common form of blood cancer, by funding biomedical research and supporting the next generation of lymphoma researchers. With the guidance of the Foundation’s prestigious Scientific Advisory Board (SAB), which is comprised of 45 of the world’s leading lymphoma experts, the Foundation invests in the research and scientists which have the greatest potential to improve our understanding of lymphomas and lead to improved treatment options for patients. To date, the Foundation has funded more than $86.4 million in research focused on the origins and treatment of lymphoma. About the Opportunity
Based in New York City, the Assistant Controller/Senior Financial Analyst will handle high-level accounting, managerial accounting, and oversee financial activities of the organization. As the assistant to the Controller, the Assistant Controller will assist with managing all aspects of accounting from payroll to tax compliance, procedures, and financial planning as needed. This role is an exempt, full-time position, with a salary range between $110,000 to $125,000 annually. The organization utilizes a flexible schedule that requires working in the Foundation’s office Tuesday through Thursday, with Monday and Friday as flex days (subject to business requirements). The organization also offers a robust benefits package, including health, dental, and vision coverage, short- and long-term disability, and a 403(b)-retirement plan with up to a 5% employer match.
Responsibilities
- Assist in managing all aspects of organization financial operations: transaction processing (including billing), financial statements, general ledger, cost accounting, accounts payable, accounts receivable, budgeting, tax compliance, fixed asset accounting, cost accounting, revenue recognition, and various special analyses and cash reconciliation
- Assist with maintaining documentation of accounting policies and operations for the department, in accordance with non-profit and accounting best practices
- Ensure payments of all accounts in a timely manner
- Process accounts and select donor/payment collection
- Assist in the monitoring of cash and funding balance
- Create/write specialized reports from Financial Edge
- Maintain record keeping for all accounts, grantees, statements, transactions, payments, and debts
- Prepare and organize financial statements for the Controller, Chief Operating Officer and Chief Executive Officer, as well as for the Board of Directors
- Prepare and organize monthly/quarterly/annual financial reports and analyses for the senior staff
- Manage grant and restricted fund accounting, including donor restrictions, releases, and award tracking. Support monthly and year-end closing, including journal entries, reconciliations, and internal controls.
- Assist annual audit, Form 990 preparation, and regulatory compliance reporting. Prepare cash flow forecasts and liquidity analyses to support operating and grant funding needs.
- Participate in select meetings with Controller and Chief Operating Officer with Program, Development, Marketing, and Operations departments to ensure accurate financial reporting and planning.
- Assist in driving process improvements, reporting automation, and system enhancements across finance operations. Assist with the preparation and management of the annual budget and forecasting process
- Perform financial analyses with the Controller for Chief Operating Officer, Chief Executive Officer, and other members of the senior staff
- Assist and organize information and materials for external auditors
- Complete projects and other related duties as assigned or requested
Skills and Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or business administration with an emphasis in accounting or a related field. CPA is preferred, with a minimum of 7-10 years of nonprofit fiscal experience
- Previous professional experience as an accountant, accounting supervisor experience with non-profit/ exempt organization accounting preferred
- Knowledge of finance, accounting, budgeting, cost accounting and cost control principles, and Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
- Experience with Microsoft Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Microsoft Teams), accounting software required; extensive experience and knowledge in Financial Edge NXT, Raiser’s Edge preferred
- Familiarity with organization compliance with local, state, and federal laws regarding finances, tax filings, and reporting
- Customer service oriented
- Strong communication and writing skills
- Analytical ability to develop and implement improvements or recommendations
- Strong attention to detail
- Ability to work well with senior staff members and organization leadership, as well as mentor/lead other team members
- Must be able to carry 30 pounds

Compensación
