    Volunteer Manager

    Status: Full-time, exempt

    About NYC Pride: NYC Pride works toward a future without discrimination where all people have equal rights under the law. We do this by producing LGBTQIA+ Pride events that inspire, educate, commemorate and celebrate our diverse community.

    Position Summary:

    The Volunteer Manager will oversee a portfolio of over one thousand volunteers. The Manager will lead all aspects of volunteer recruitment, engagement, training, management, and retention for NYC Pride’s year-round events and programs. This role requires exceptional organizational and people skills, experience with large-scale events, and a passion for fostering a positive and inclusive environment for volunteers. The position blends administrative responsibilities, event coordination, and community engagement to support NYC Pride’s mission.

    The Volunteer Manager will report to the Executive Director, and will collaborate with all departments, including Events, Development, and Media and Communications.

    Due to the nature of NYC Pride’s operations, the Volunteer Manager must be available after 6:00 p.m. two to three times per month for events, programming, or meetings. During the month of June, the Volunteer Manager’s responsibilities extend past 6:00 p.m. four to five days per week.

    Key Responsibilities:

    Volunteer Recruitment, Engagement, and Retention

    • Manage NYC Pride’s portfolio of volunteers, securing over 1,000 volunteers annually for various events.
    • Develop strategies and tactics to recruit, engage, and retain the volunteers.
    • Identifying new opportunities to strengthen partnerships with the community, universities, corporate ERGs, volunteer organizations, and various external institutions.
    • Cultivate and steward relationships with volunteers, creating a welcoming and inclusive environment.
    • Serve as the primary point of contact for all volunteer-related inquiries, assignments, and concerns.
    • Manage the Community Working Grants program, including recruitment, application review, training, placement, and grant disbursement, with support from the team.

    Volunteer Training and Development

    • Design and maintain comprehensive training materials and presentations to prepare volunteers for their assigned roles.
    • Organize training sessions, both in-person and online, ensuring accessibility and efficiency.
    • Develop and enforce volunteer program policies and procedures.

    Event Volunteer Management and Coordination

    • Assess event volunteer needs and coordinate schedules across multiple events.
    • Support on-site event operations, ensuring volunteers are effectively managed and supported during events.
    • Implement consistent check-in and registration processes for day-of volunteers.

    Administrative and Data Management

    • Maintain accurate volunteer data, participation, schedules, and communications.
    • Track and report volunteer hours and contributions, integrating this data into broader organizational reports.
    • Regularly evaluate volunteer performance and solicit feedback to improve future programs.
    • Provide monthly reports of volunteer activities to the Executive Director and Board of Directors.

    Budget and Resource Allocation

    • Manage and allocate budgets for volunteer operations, including training, resources, and appreciation events.
    • Oversee the procurement of identifying apparel and supplies for volunteers.
    • Plan and execute volunteer appreciation events, including the annual ‘Volunteer Thank You Reception’

    Qualifications & Skills

    • Bachelor’s degree and 3–5 years of experience in volunteer management, human resources, or recruiting (or equivalent experience).
    • Experience working with large-scale events and managing diverse teams.
    • Proven ability to develop training materials and conduct team or volunteer training.
    • Strong communication and public speaking skills, with frequent interaction with volunteers, sponsors, and community members.
    • Excellent organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks in fast-paced environments.
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Google Apps, Dropbox, Eventbrite (or similar), and CRM’s
    • Multilingual candidates and individuals with a commitment to LGBTQIA+ community and social justice causes are strongly preferred.

    Additional Information

    This position is hybrid. Hybrid positions combine regular in-person presence three days per week, typically Tuesdays to Thursdays, at our office in the West Village, with Mondays and Fridays working remotely. During the month of June, presence in the office Mondays-Fridays is strongly recommended. Due to the nature of NYC Pride’s work, participation in meetings and events during the evenings and weekends are frequent, especially from January to June.

    Compensation

    $72,000 - $75,000 annually
