    The Allen-Stevenson School, founded in 1883, is a K-8 independent school for boys with an enrollment of over 350 students. Located in the heart of New York City’s Upper East Side, the school is a joyful, inclusive community. We are seeking a full-time leave replacement Help Desk Manager to start in September through March. The candidate will report to the Director of IT/IS.

    Position Overview

    The Help Desk Manager is a resourceful and hands-on professional, providing front-line technical support to faculty, staff, and students. We are seeking a self-motivated individual who can independently manage hardware/software troubleshooting, maintain reliable classroom technology, and contribute to our broader IT infrastructure and initiatives.

    This position is ideal for a tech-savvy professional who thrives in school environments, enjoys solving problems quickly and collaboratively, and can hit the ground running with minimal ramp-up.

    Essential Responsibilities and Duties

    End-User Support

    • Oversee the daily operations of the help desk, ensuring timely and effective resolution of user issues
    • Provide responsive and professional support to faculty, staff, and students on-site.
    • Diagnose and resolve hardware, software, AV, and peripheral issues (Mac, PC, and Chromebook).
    • Provide informal training and tech guidance to users as needed.
    • Escalate issues appropriately to the Director of IT/IS.
    • Provide front-line hardware and software support to students, faculty, staff, and administration
    • Resolve and manage tickets in the Incident IQ Help Desk system
    • Troubleshoot Apple computers, iOS devices, Chromebooks, printers, presentation hardware (Legamaster, Apple TVs, and Tango Boards), and other technology-related equipment.
    • Assist in the training of staff, faculty, and administration in the use of the School's hardware and software resources.
    • Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues related to EdTech systems, collaborating with vendors when necessary.
    • Manage all printer/copier inventory, including consumables, parts, repairs, and ordering.

    Routine Maintenance

    • Configure and deploy new and upgraded laptops and phones
    • Perform upgrades and repairs on computers, printers, and AV systems.
    • Ensure classrooms and meeting spaces are AV-ready daily.
    • Maintain and manage inventory of tech equipment, accessories, and supplies.

    Infrastructure Support

    • Assist with network hardware (switches, access points, cabling).
    • Support system documentation, software testing, and deployment rollouts.
    • Participate in any technology setup for school events or classroom projects.

    Other:

    • Ability to deal with a wide range of students and Faculty/Staff.

    Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

    This is a full-time in in-person, exempt temporary position from mid-September to mid-March. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. with a half-hour paid lunch. Evening and weekend work for special events is required as job duties demand, and will be scheduled in advance.

    Work Environment & Physical Demands

    This position requires the ability to maintain the physical capacity necessary to navigate the school environment and ensure the safety of students. The ability to open filing cabinets and bend, sit, or stand for long periods of time, as necessary. Classroom locations vary based on student schedules; this position ascends/descends stairs to and from different rooms in the building.

    This role also requires the ability to lift, carry, and move materials and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds, such as projectors, laptops, and printers, as needed to support daily activities and classroom and office operations.

    Requirements

    Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

    • BA preferred a minimum of 2 years of experience in IT support, preferably in education or non-profit settings.
    • Working knowledge of ChromeOS, macOS, Windows, Google Workspace, JAMF, and printers/copiers.
    • Familiarity with wired and wireless networking and basic infrastructure concepts.
    • Comfortable lifting/moving IT equipment and crawling into awkward tech spaces (ceilings, under desks, etc.).
    • Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks independently.

    Annual Salary of $70,000- $90,000 commensurate with education and experience, and prorated for the start and end dates.
