    Position Description

    APANO AF is hiring a Child Care Organizer to lead our culturally-specific organizing strategy within the statewide Child Care for Oregon (CCFO) coalition. This position will organize and mobilize Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander (AANHPI) parents, caregivers, providers, and early learning advocates around child care justice—especially those impacted by language access, immigrant status, and economic insecurity.

    This is a community organizing role focused on deep relationship-building, leadership development, and campaign mobilization to build a child care system that is affordable, culturally responsive, publicly funded, and family- and provider-centered. The organizer will work in close collaboration with APANO AF’s Policy Manager and state policy partners to advance CCFO’s legislative agenda and elevate AANHPI voices at the Capitol.

    Primary Responsibilities

    Community Organizing (50%)

    • Build and sustain relationships with AANHPI parents, family care providers, and early childhood educators impacted by child care barriers.
    • Coordinate APANO’s parent/provider basebuilding programs and support the leadership development of AANHPI community members in the CCFO campaign.
    • Organize listening sessions, story collection, campaign trainings, and direct actions to center community voices in the legislative process.
    • Maintain a consistent presence in the community via outreach, canvassing, 1:1s, and event coordination.

    Campaign & Coalition Advocacy (30%)

    • Represent APANO AF in the CCFO coalition and other relevant advocacy spaces.
    • Support mobilizations, legislative visits, and coalition-wide campaigns related to APANO AF’s child care priorities
    • Support testimony writing, storytelling, and public speaking preparation for impacted community members.
    • Track and report on campaign goals, participation metrics, and impact stories.

    Legislative Advocacy & Policy Engagement (20%)

    • Work closely with APANO AF’s Policy Manager to monitor, support, and advance APANO’s child care policy priorities during the state legislative session.
    • Attend legislative hearings, submit testimony, and participate in lobby days on behalf of APANO and coalition partners.
    • Track relevant bills and participate in real-time rapid response efforts in partnership with the Child Care for Oregon (CCFO) coalition and the Fair Shot Coalition.
    • Prepare community leaders to speak directly with lawmakers, and support coordination of APANO’s testimony, policy one-pagers, and action alerts.

    Required Qualifications

    • 1-3 years of experience in grassroots organizing, campaign work, or basebuilding.
    • Knowledge of Asian and Asian American communities and issues; those with lived experience are highly encouraged to apply
    • Enthusiasm for working to advance Asian and Pacific Islander political power;
    • Ability to work collaboratively and maintain effective working relationships in a team environment
    • Strong project management skills and ability to think and prioritize strategically
    • Excellent writing and editing skills
    • Be reliable, self-motivated, resourceful, and able to adapt to fast-paced environments;
    • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, including experience facilitating community spaces.
    • Highly organized with serious attention to detail and adherence to deadlines.
    • High school diploma, GED, or equivalent

    Preferred Qualifications

    • Familiarity with the Voter Activation Network (VAN), EveryAction, legislative tracking and field organizing metrics.
    • Proficiency in an Asian and/or a Pacific Islander language
    • Comfort with training volunteers in field tactics, such as phone banking, texting, email, door canvassing and tabling
