    JOB SUMMARY

    The Director of Development & Marketing is responsible for building a comprehensive marketing and development plan, collateral, digital media strategy, and managing the day-to-day marketing and communication needs of Independence House Inc. Key elements include donor acquisition and fundraising, events, an annual giving program, major gifts from individuals, and corporate and foundation giving. This position will manage the planning and implementation of marketing and branding efforts and will contribute to grant writing and reporting. As a member of the Independence House leadership team, this position will focus on raising funds and increasing brand awareness for programs that make a difference in the lives of domestic violence and sexual assault survivors. The Director of Development & Marketing will be responsible for creating an expense and revenue budget for development activities. The Director of Development & Marketing will oversee and execute ongoing fundraising efforts and any capital campaign efforts. The Director of Development & Marketing will adopt an in-house model to train and maintain a staff of approximately 6 volunteers to assist in specific development tasks and manage and evaluate these volunteers.

    REPORTING RELATIONSHIP

    The Director of Development & Marketing will report directly to the Executive Director of Independence House Inc., with a secondary reporting obligation to the Board of Directors.

    The position is in-person; virtual may be accommodated after 12 months in the position.

    SUPERVISION EXERCISED

    Recruits, trains, and supervises development and marketing volunteers.

    PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

    DEVELOPMENT

    • Develop a comprehensive fundraising strategy.
    • Charged with increasing annual giving, building relationships with existing and new corporate partners, implementing legacy giving and planned giving, and deepening our engagement in the community.
    • Working closely with the Independence House Inc. Board of Directors and developing donor support groups to ensure best practices are in place.
    • Responsible for donor stewardship, managing gift entry and acknowledgment, and the database.
    • Management and donor research.
    • Research new fundraising revenue sources, including local, state, foundations, and national grant opportunities.
    • Commitment to accountability, measuring outcomes, and creating results-oriented fundraising and communications culture.
    • Develop, execute, sustain, and evaluate PAVE Program.
    • Lead & coordinate anniversary activities and other milestone anniversaries as indicated.
    • Manages volunteer program; recruits, trains, engages, and recognizes individual volunteers and groups. Provides on-site guidance for work groups and individuals, as well as volunteer-led events.
    • Coordinates in-kind donations, working with in-kind donors to receive as well as solicit donations for various programs

    MARKETING

    • Develop, implement, and evaluate marketing strategies across Independence House Inc.’s multiple audiences.
    • Oversee the Independence House Inc. brand in all communications, including website, social media, electronic and print communications, Independence House events, programs, and the annual report to ensure branding, continuity and message consistency.
    • Lead Independence House Inc.’s marketing strategy to drive engagement.
    • Produce content that establishes Independence House Inc. as a thought leader and extends its reach by driving awareness of our mission.
    • Evaluate strategies for new marketing and outreach opportunities.
    • Serve as a spokesperson for Independence House as directed by the executive director and actively engage, cultivate, and manage media relationships, including social media platforms.
    • Manage newsletter development and distribution. Maintain, update, and disseminate agency brochures.
    • Coordinate and plan the annual “Teddy Bear Breakfast”.
    • Coordinate and lead in partnerships with the staff team, the yearly Holiday Giving Program for clients
    • Works in collaboration with staff to plan and execute Domestic Violence Awareness Month, Sexual Assault Awareness Month, and Teen Dating Violence Awareness Month events
    • Manages the upkeep and updating of websites contents

    • Strong interpersonal communication skills.
    • Team player but also adept at working independently, meeting job-specific expectations and timelines.
    • Adheres to Independence House policy and procedures.

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

    • Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, or related field; master’s degree preferred.
    • 5 years’ experience in development and/or direct marketing with expertise in both digital marketing and nonprofit fundraising or programming.
    • Demonstrated ability to write and develop creative content that targets a variety of audiences.
    • Grant writing experience. Knowledge of and skills in writing succinctly with excellent grammar, spelling, and proofreading.
    • Able to work independently with strong time management skills; managing multiple conflicting and reporting deadlines.
    • Proficient in working with marketing and design software and donor database software.
    • Commitment to professional development, striving to maintain best practices in digital marketing and development management.

      • Experience and/or ability to demonstrate competence in planning, leading and managing development projects, including coordinating with colleagues to achieve desired outcomes and tracking and reporting on progress to managers (as appropriate), Executive Director and Board.

      • Take initiative and actively seek to deepen donors’ relationships and make new ones.

    Communications:

      • Skilled in creating powerful, compelling written and oral communications for fundraising & marketing.
      • Ability to convey complex ideas through brief simple materials.

      • Create win-win situations and respond appropriately to community stakeholders.

      • Skilled at establishing and maintaining strong relationships with colleagues across Independence House, as well as externally.
    • Commitment, dedication to and belief in the mission, vision and values of Independence House.

    Additional Responsibilities

    • Initiated or is directed by the Executive Director to perform additional duties or tasks to support the mission. Lead various agency staff in meeting fundraising, volunteer, and other program goals (appropriate direct service staff/coordinators).
    • Experience and knowledge of project management and coordination
    • Ability to maintain knowledge and professional development in market research,
    • business trends, marketing, and fundraising trends that may impact needs and
    • resources
    • Comprehensive knowledge of Microsoft Office, Adobe, and other software
    • Excellent oral and written communication skills
    • Ability to supervise volunteers and staff, work both independently and in a team
    • environment
    • Knowledge of Independence House Inc. requires /willingness to become knowledgeable.
    • A working knowledge of the Four Rivers Region is desired
    • Hours: Full-time hours, participation in early morning, evening, and weekend events will be required as needed
