The LA Chinatown Community Land Trust (LACCLT) is a membership-based nonprofit organization that builds community power to keep Chinatown livable for low-income and immigrant communities by acquiring property, preserving affordability, and stewarding land for future generations. We envision a healthy, thriving Chinatown ecosystem, rooted in lasting care, connection, and self-determination, where community needs are met, cultural heritage is honored, and collective spaces and resources abound.
LACCLT is currently a fully volunteer-run organization with a volunteer board managing both the day-to-day activities and long-term strategy development. This role would be its first full-time staff and will help project manage the various workstreams that are currently being managed by the board, as well as lead and develop other projects and priorities identified in our strategic plan.
Role Responsibilities
Project Management (60%)
- Manage and facilitate multiple concurrent workstreams and respective workgroups related to real estate acquisition, partnerships, outreach, and funding to ensure steady progress toward defined goals and timelines. Project workstreams include, but are not limited to:
- Acquisition Strategy and Property Research
- Community Outreach
- Membership and Volunteer Development
- Fundraising
- Coordinate and support all workgroups by scheduling and facilitating meetings, developing agendas, documenting decisions, tracking action items, and following up to ensure deliverables are completed.
- Reactivate and support workgroups (e.g., community outreach, fundraising) as needed to advance priorities outlined in the strategic plan.
- Proactively check in with board members, member leads, and workgroup participants to assess progress, identify barriers, and provide support to keep initiatives moving forward.
- Maintain clear project plans, timelines, and accountability structures across all workstreams.
- Collaborate with external consultants and internal stakeholders to develop and implement real estate prototypes.
- Facilitate cross-functional coordination among staff, volunteers, consultants, and partners to ensure clear communication, defined roles, and documented next steps.
Community Outreach (20%)
- Engage, mobilize, and support LACCLT members and volunteers to conduct strategic outreach to property owners and buildings identified in acquisition research.
- Develop outreach tools, messaging, and engagement strategies to support effective community-facing efforts.
- Attend community events (ex. CCED’s All Chinatown Tenants Union (ACTU), tabling events) and present CLT 101 materials to tenants and community members.
- Maintain clear communication loops with volunteers and members to ensure outreach efforts are coordinated, informed, and aligned with broader LACCLT goals.
Relationship Development and Management (20%)
- Represent the organization in coalition and partner meetings, ensuring information is shared back internally and that coalition work aligns with organizational priorities.
- Schedule and participate in meetings with potential funders, including foundations, public agencies, and investors; support proposal development and follow-up.
- Build and maintain strategic relationships with developers to explore and structure partnership opportunities aligned with organizational real estate and community objectives.
- Serve as a key external ambassador for the organization.
- Maintain organized records of external meetings, partnership discussions, and funding conversations to support follow-through and relationship continuity.
Preferred Qualifications
- Masters Degree in Urban Planning, Public Policy, and/or Real Estate
- 5-7 years of relevant experience
Required Skills
- Experience project managing multiple projects at a time
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and lead projectsAbility to work remotely and independently with minimal direct supervision
- Experience with community outreach
- Excellent interpersonal skillsUnderstanding and ability to explain of the community land trust modelStrong facilitation skills and able to work in collaborative projects
- Experience working with culturally diverse constituents
- Willingness and ability to work evenings and weekendsWillingness to represent LACCLT at stakeholder meetings and events
- Must have reliable transportation or arrangement of transportation
Desired Skills
- Familiarity or experience with organizing tenants
- Familiarity with housing and economic issues facing Chinatown
- Proficiency in another language widely spoken in Chinatown (Cantonese, Mandarin, Spanish)
Job Details
This position is full-time. Staff is expected to be available during business hours between 9am - 5pm, Monday through Friday, but may adjust schedule to accommodate weeknight working group meetings and weekend outreach events.
This is a one-year position, contingent on funding. We are seeking a candidate who is excited about the opportunity to grow with the organization and contribute to its long-term success.
