About the Role
The Wood Volunteer Coordinator prepares projects and workstations, teaches beginner-friendly restoration skills, supervises volunteers during repair shifts, and supports production flow in a busy nonprofit workshop. Ideal candidates have hands-on furniture refinishing or woodworking experience and enjoy teaching, organizing, and building community.
Responsibilities
- Lead volunteer repair shifts; teach basic sanding, prep, painting, staining, and finishing
- Assign tasks based on skill level and project needs
- Monitor safety, quality, and tool use; provide constructive feedback
- Prepare volunteer-ready projects, tools, PPE, and workstations
- Track project progress and update statuses/photos in inventory database
- Maintain organized, safe woodshop spaces
- Support corporate/community volunteer groups
- Communicate delays, supply needs, and production concerns
Ideal Qualifications
- Experience with furniture repair, refinishing, woodworking, painting, or finishing and associated tools
- Experience teaching, training, or supervising volunteers or learners
- Strong interpersonal, communication, and group-management skills
- Ability to demonstrate hands-on processes clearly and patiently
- Organized, detail-oriented, and safety-conscious
- Comfortable working in an active workshop environment
- Basic digital communication and tracking skills
- Preferred Experience:
- Teaching adults and/or teens with varied skill levels
- Leading corporate/community volunteer groups
- First-aid/CPR certification (or willingness to obtain)
Physical Requirements
- Standing, walking, bending, and reaching for extended periods
- Demonstrating repair tasks around tools, dust, noise, and finishing products
- Moving furniture within established safety limits
- Wearing and enforcing PPE usage
Schedule
- Part-Time (~24 hours/3-days per week)
- 1 Saturday & 1 evening per month
Compensación
Paid sick and vacation time, pro-rated for part-time
