National Headquarters (NHQ) supports the work of The Salvation Army across the United States and internationally by providing leadership, resources, and strategic support to territorial and local operations.
The Corporate and Foundation Relations Coordinator supports the development, coordination, and stewardship of national corporate and foundation relationships for The Salvation Army. Reporting to the Director of Corporate and Foundation Relationships, this position provides operational, administrative, and project coordination support for national partnership and foundation initiatives while assisting with donor communications, stewardship activities, and relationship management.
The Corporate and Foundation Relations Coordinator works collaboratively with internal departments, territorial and divisional staff, and external partners to support fundraising initiatives, coordinate partnership activities, maintain accurate records, and advance corporate and foundation engagement efforts. While primarily serving in a support and coordination capacity, the position also manages a limited portfolio of assigned corporate and foundation relationships.
Key Responsibilities
- Supports the Director of Corporate and Foundation Relationships in the coordination and implementation of national corporate and foundation fundraising initiatives and related projects.
- Provides administrative and operational support for corporate and foundation partnerships managed through National Headquarters.
- Assists with the coordination, tracking, stewardship, and reporting processes related to corporate and foundation grants, partnerships, campaigns, and activations.
- Maintains accurate records of partner communications, agreements, reports, campaign metrics, stewardship activities, and project timelines.
- May servs as relationship lead for a limited portfolio of assigned corporate partners in collaboration with territorial and divisional staff and the Director of Corporate and Foundation Relationships.
- Supports the achievement of departmental goals, metrics, and fundraising objectives.
- Works collaboratively with the Communications Department and other internal stakeholders to ensure appropriate promotion and visibility of partnership initiatives through owned and earned media channels.
- Coordinates with NHQ Finance and other departments to ensure accurate routing, documentation, tracking, and reporting of corporate and foundation gifts and related disbursements.
- Coordinates logistics and supports meetings, presentations, reports, and donor communications, and special projects.
- Performs other related duties as assigned by the Director of Corporate and Foundation Relationships.
DONOR STEWARDSHIP AND COMMUNICATIONS
- Assists in the development and coordination of donor stewardship communications, reports, presentations, and impact materials for corporate and foundation partners.
- Works with territorial and divisional staff to collect data, stories, financial information, and program outcomes needed for stewardship and reporting purposes.
- Supports the preparation and distribution of grant reports, partnership updates, campaign summaries, and other donor communications.
- Maintains stewardship calendars and tracking systems to ensure timely communication and fulfillment of partner requirements.
- Responds to corporate and foundation inquiries received through National Headquarters and routes requests appropriately.
PARTNERSHIP AND PROJECT COORDINATION
- Provides coordination support for national partnership and foundation initiatives, including tracking deliverables, timelines, approvals, campaign metrics, and participating units.
- Supports coordination, tracking, stewardship, and reporting processes
- Coordination of legal agreement processes and maintains organized partnership and grant documentation.
- Supports cross-departmental and cross-territorial collaboration related to partnership activations and foundation-funded initiatives.
- Provides customer service and ongoing communication support to partners, foundations, and internal stakeholders throughout partnership activations and grant implementation processes.
- Supports coordination, tracking, stewardship, and reporting processes
- Coordination of cause marketing campaigns, corporate engagement opportunities, volunteer activities, and related fundraising initiatives as assigned.
FOUNDATION RELATIONS SUPPORT
- Supports research efforts related to foundation funding opportunities and prospective partners as directed by the Director of Corporate and Foundation Relationships.
- Assists with gathering information and materials needed for grant proposals, reports, presentations, and foundation communications.
- Maintains records of foundation deadlines, reporting schedules, proposal submissions, and funding outcomes.
- Coordinates internally with program and finance staff to obtain required information for foundation reporting and proposal development.
DISASTER AND EMERGENCY RESPONSE SUPPORT
- Assists with donor communication and stewardship efforts related to disaster response campaigns and emergency fundraising initiatives.
- Supports coordination of donor inquiries, reporting needs, and partner communications during significant disaster responses.
- Provides administrative and project support for corporate and foundation disaster-related partnerships as assigned.
CHRISTMAS AND SEASONAL CAMPAIGN SUPPORT
- Assists with coordination and support of Christmas partnership activations and national seasonal fundraising initiatives as needed.
- Supports stewardship reporting, campaign tracking, volunteer engagement coordination, and communication related to Christmas campaigns and Red Kettle initiatives.
- May serves as a liaison to territorial and divisional staff regarding partnership materials, reporting requests, and activation support needs.
- Provides standardized stewardship and communication materials for use with corporate and foundation partners connected to seasonal campaigns.
OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES
- Performs other related projects and departmental work as assigned by the National Director of Corporate and Foundation Relationships.
- Participates in approved conferences, seminars, training opportunities, and departmental meetings as assigned.
Qualifications
Required
Education & Experience
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university
3+ years of experience working in nonprofit fundraising, partnership development or marketing
An understanding of corporate philanthropy and foundation fundraising landscape
Graphic design, project management and/or writing skills/experience a plus
Preferred
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills and follow-up for successful closure of gifts and volunteer commitment.
- Strong and effective interpersonal and persuasive skills, modeling effective relationship management and demonstrating emotional intelligence / situational awareness.
- Ability to assess a situation and come up with effective solutions. Takes a solutions-based approach to projects/work.
- Excellent document creation, proposal, and presentation development skills.
- Strong organizational skills, follow-through, and attention to detail.
- Proven experience in funding and partnership development, especially in the area of corporate partnerships preferred.
- Ability to assist in developing collaborative approaches in harmony with local Army stakeholders for “win-win outcomes for both The Salvation Army and corporate partner
- Ability to effectively manage many projects at one time. Project management experience is a plus.
- Knowledge of cause-marketing and product tie-in best practices and how to effectively apply such options to dialogue with prospective corporate funders for the Army’s benefit.
- Ability to apply knowledge of Army policies and procedures and ability to communicate and follow accurate interpretation of the same.
- Ability to travel as necessary to carry out responsibilities and assignments.
- Ability to be a driven self-starter; to work independently on project management, while working collaboratively and cooperatively under the supervision of the National Director of Corporate and Foundation Relationships and department leadership.
- Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment while effectively managing multiple competing priorities.
- Team player, engaging effectively and respectfully with other staff for accomplishment of organizational and department goals.
- A fundraiser at heart, able to successfully engage with corporate decision-makers through cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship activity.
- Understanding of prospect identification and research and relationship management approaches.
SOFTWARE-RELATED SKILLS:
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Experience with PC’s and networking.
- Experience with donor management software.
- Experience with graphic design template software.
- Familiarity with prospect research tools.
