    Hillside Health Care International provides health care services to under-served people in southern Belize. Hillside operates a primary care clinic, provides nursing home care and palliative services, as well as providing community outreach and education. Our clinic provides the only physical rehabilitation services in Belize's Toledo District.

    Medical, physician assistant, pharmacy, public health, and physical therapy students from the US, UK, Europe, New Zealand, and Australia spend 1 – 2 months in year-round rotations learning about global health and getting hands-on experience working with volunteers. Hillside has worked in Belize for 20 years; we are a recognized resource by Belizean government ministries and communities and are making a difference!

    The stipend provided in this position is enough to live comfortably in the beautiful beach town of Punta Gorda. We will help you with all visas and licensing. Come experience another culture and country!

    Overview of Responsibilities:

    1. Manage and oversee public health curriculum for rotating graduate-level health professional students
    • Lead and develop curriculum for public health education activities in Toledo District schools during the academic year
    • Deliver public health lecture(s) and public health orientation each month
    • Lead participatory photo mapping activities/presentations each month
    • Coordinate student outreach presentation with Executive Director and community partners
    • Participate in and prepare for all-student orientation and evaluation each month in partnership with other Director(s)
    • Update readings and resource list for current public health literature
    1. Develop and supervise month-long field placements for Master of Public Health (MPH) students
    • Act as the primary preceptor for student public health/community work
    • Coordinate MPH student field experience:

    o Liaise with community partners to create a meaningful experience through varied public health placements

    • Develop adequate onsite & online resources for public and global health education
    • Oversee in-country IRB process in partnership with the home institution where necessary
    • Act as liaison between student’s home institution and in-country experience, including” o Completion of required evaluation and partnership forms

    o Communication as necessary about the participant’s performance

    1. Program planning, evaluation, and policy development
    • Evaluate, review, and update public health program strategic planning documents to keep goals current, realistic, and in line with overall organization strategic planning and goals
    • Build on programmatic efforts, including:

    o Successfully host 1-2 MPH students per month

    o Outreach for short-term volunteers and interns

    o Increase program funding

    • Build institutional partnerships with MPH programs in the United States in coordination with the Public Health Committee
    • Evaluate Program and student evaluations

    o Develop MPH student-specific evaluations and non-MPH student evaluations for interdisciplinary learning

    o Develop and manage the evaluation of community-based projects

    1. Liaison with community partners (with Medical Director)
    • Identify potential community and public health projects
    • In conjunction with Medical Director, maintain ongoing, regular dialogue with community partners, including:

    o Ministry of Health (MoH)

    o Community Health Workers (CHWs)

    o Ministry of Education (MoE)

    • Attend monthly CHWs meetings at MoH and offer assistance in CHWs training
    1. Communicate and collaborate with the Board of Directors (with the Medical Director and Executive Director)
    • Act as Co-Chair of the Public Health Committee (PHC) o Schedule quarterly calls one year in advance

    o In conjunction with the BOD co-chair, draft agendas for and lead PHC meetings each quarter

    o Draft PHC reports, programmatic documents, advertisements, and communication documents as needed

    o Provide programmatic updates with regards to public health efforts in-country upon request

    • Sit on the Clinical Committee

    o Assist in the development of clinic Quality Improvement (QI) initiatives

    o Provide data analysis and program evaluation for clinical interventions

    • Collaborate with the Grants Writer

    o Initiate and lead public health-focused fundraising projects and events with support from the Director of Development.

    o Direct, lead, and manage the development of grants, applications, and reports for public health programs and funding.

    1. Promote a team-oriented model of healthcare.
    • Sit on the in-country Hillside management team
    • Collaborate with other Director(s) to coordinate monthly schedules, student curriculum, evening presentations, and clinical/community activities.
    • Support and partner with Community-Based Rehab program efforts where possible

    QUALIFICATIONS/ SKILLS:

    • Minimum of Master in Public Health
    • Good communication and writing skills. Fluency in English is mandatory.
    • Computer literate with proficiency in Google sheet, Microsoft Word, and email
    • Must be honest, respectful, responsible, flexible, and have good work ethics
