We support nonprofit organizations that serve low-to-moderate income communities by offering training, strategic consulting, and capacity-building programs. Our mission is to strengthen nonprofit leaders and the organizations they serve to drive social change.

    Position Summary:

    The Director of Learning and Innovation plays a critical role in building the department’s capacity and spearheading its professional development strategy. The Director will shape innovative offerings that blend nonprofit resiliency, leadership development, and sector evolution. A human-centered approach is paramount as CNM engages with a variety of nonprofit professionals serving different issue areas, at different points of their careers, embracing different strategies, and living different worldviews. To maintain integrity in how we work with our partners and colleagues, expertise in data management and impact reporting will be critical. Additionally, because of the high-degree of partnership CNM engages in, expertise in contracting, budget management, and relationship cultivation is key. Strong skills in facilitation, public speaking, and instruction in their area of expertise will be critical. Last, experience as an organizational consultant will be invaluable as the department engages with various consultants to deliver offerings throughout the year.

    Key Responsibilities:

    Departmental Strategy

    • Oversees the creation, implementation, and management of departmental learning offerings and events for brand consistency across all offerings, including CNM signature offerings.
    • Leads sector’s professional development and upskilling strategy via in person and virtual CNM offerings across southern CA, including cohort and fee-based offerings.
    • Serve as an instructor within area of expertise to continuously practice and gain insight on how to best enhance learning experiences.
    • Works closely with all CNM departments to actively create signature learning experiences integrating real-time nonprofit trends and emerging needs.
    • Spearheads departmental data management strategy to continuously reflect on what’s working well, what needs to evolve, and its impact.
    • Ability to creatively develop and execute both short-term and long-term people development strategies aligned with organizational priorities.
    • Carries out high-quality community feedback loops.
    • Other duties, as needed.

    Leadership and Team Management

    • Leads strategy on departmental learning management systems, including e-tools and on-demand learning platforms.
    • Supervises program managers to successfully plan, coordinate, and implement audience-facing learning experiences.
    • Creates and implements policies, procedures, and best practices for all departmental offerings, including the onboarding and offboarding of partners, facilitators, and consultants.
    • Identifies and guides staff through professional development opportunities to deepen departmental impact and effectiveness.
    • Strengthens team culture with a wellness-centric perspective and approach.
    • Identifies and recruits departmental consultants and subcontractors to support L&I learning goals and objectives via structured outreach and onboarding processes.
    • Involvement in the nonprofit community via teaching, event attendance, public speaking, facilitation, etc. at conferences, special convenings, and other invitations as requested.
    • Other duties, as needed.

    Operational and Budget Management

    • Works closely with Vice President to create yearly offering calendars as well as departmental and programmatic budgets.
    • Sets marketing and engagement strategy for departmental offerings to intentionally engage audiences and promote offerings.
    • Produce quarterly and yearly departmental reports to highlight trends and impact.
    • Maintains up-do-date descriptions of L&I offerings to support grants applications and end-of-program reporting.
    • Supports the growth of the Facilitator’s Network to intentionally engage subcontractors, consultants and other capacity-building organizations.
    • Coordinate program managers to create the department’s marketing and communication on CNM’s website and socials.
    • Grows a library of tools, resources, and partners to support diverse nonprofit audiences.
    • Contribute to tools and activities that support the department’s overall learning experience.
    • Other duties, as needed.

    MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

    • Bachelor’s degree in education, social science or business-related field or 8 years of related experience and/or training combined.
    • Minimum of 5 years of experience in developing professional development opportunities for adult learners, especially in education, nonprofit, and/or social service/healthcare settings.
    • At least 5 years of experience with managing full-time staff.
