    Descripción

Generations United’s mission is to improve the lives of children, youth, and older adults through intergenerational collaboration, public policies, and programs for the enduring benefit of all. For nearly three decades, Generations United has been the catalyst for policies and practices stimulating cooperation and collaboration among generations, evoking the vibrancy, energy, and sheer productivity that result when people of all ages come together. We believe that we can only be successful in the face of our complex future if generational diversity is regarded as a national asset and fully leveraged.

    The Opportunity

Generations United is seeking a senior, hands-on Vice President, Finance & Operations to serve as a key advisor and operating partner to the CEO. This executive will strengthen the financial discipline, operational systems, internal controls, financial literacy, and administrative infrastructure needed to advance GU's mission, steward restricted and federal funding, meet funder and regulatory obligations, and operate sustainably.

This is not a purely strategic or advisory role. The successful candidate will move comfortably between long-term sustainability questions and operational details; understand nonprofit accounting and grant-management mechanics; manage vendors firmly; translate and teach financial information to nonfinancial leaders; and ensure critical systems are documented, repeatable, and appropriately backed up.

    What You Will Lead

    • Financial leadership and shared ownership. Lead inclusive budgeting, multi-year forecasting, scenario planning, cash-flow and restricted-fund oversight, budget-to-actual reviews, and clear financial reporting for the CEO, executive team, Finance Committee, and Board. Build financial literacy and budget ownership among nonfinancial leaders.
    • Grant financial management and compliance. Oversee federal, foundation, corporate, and other restricted funding, including grant budgets, cost allocation, time charging, drawdowns and reimbursements, funder reporting, allowable-cost documentation, indirect costs, and grant closeout.
    • Accounting, audit, tax, and controls. Oversee accounting operations and external providers; lead audit preparation and Form 990 coordination; and strengthen financial policies, approvals, procurement, expenses, credit-card use, contracts, and segregation of duties.
    • Operations and vendor accountability. Set clear scopes, service standards, renewal calendars, performance measures, and escalation paths for vendors supporting finance, HR administration, payroll, benefits, IT, facilities, audit, insurance, legal coordination, and communications execution.
    • People operations, payroll, and benefits oversight. Provide executive oversight of HR administration, payroll, benefits, workers' compensation, leave, personnel records, onboarding and offboarding, compensation planning, and multi-state compliance, in partnership with external HR and legal advisors.
    • Technology, facilities, administration, and communications support. Oversee IT and cybersecurity vendors, equipment and access, office and hybrid-work operations, the Manager of Executive Administration & Operations, and the communications contractor service model.
    • Risk, compliance, and organizational capacity. Identify risk early; document core processes; establish backup coverage; strengthen vendor and service boundaries; and help GU move from legacy practices to a sustainable, coordinated operating model.

    Position Qualifications

    Required:

    • Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance.
    • At least eight years of progressively responsible finance and operations experience, including significant experience in a nonprofit, association, grant-funded, or other mission-driven environment.
    • Hands-on experience with restricted and federal grants, including budgets, cost allocation, allowable costs, funder reporting, drawdowns or reimbursements, and closeout.
    • Strong knowledge of nonprofit accounting, budgeting, forecasting, audit preparation, Form 990 coordination, internal controls, financial reporting, and Board or committee reporting.
    • Demonstrated ability to translate and teach financial information to Boards, executives, program leaders, and nonfinancial managers and to build shared budget ownership outside the finance function.
    • Experience supervising staff and managing outsourced consultants, vendors, or professional service firms across multiple operational disciplines.
    • Strong judgment, discretion, ethical decision-making, communication, project management, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to combine executive leadership and hands-on execution.

    Preferred:

    • CPA or master's degree in accounting, finance, taxation, business administration, or nonprofit financial management.
    • Experience with federal grants, Uniform Guidance, indirect-cost allocation, cost-reimbursement funding, and grant-funded payroll or time-allocation processes.
    • Experience working with nonprofit Boards and Finance or Audit Committees and leading finance and operations through organizational change.
    • Experience evaluating or transitioning accounting, HR, payroll, benefits, IT, communications, or PEO vendors; familiarity with QuickBooks Online, Paylocity, Employee Navigator, or comparable systems.

The approximate pay range for this position is $143,000 to 172,000 annually. Please note that the pay range provided is a good faith estimate for the position at the time of posting.
