The Marin County Bicycle Coalition (MCBC) is seeking an outgoing, relationship-oriented Individual Giving Specialist to grow our community of members and donors.

This is a frontline fundraising position for someone who genuinely enjoys meeting people, building relationships, and sharing their enthusiasm for bicycling and MCBC’s mission. You’ll get to know our supporters, learn what inspires them, connect them more deeply to our work, and invite them to invest in making Marin an even better place to bike.

We’re looking for someone who is warm, engaging, persistent, and comfortable asking people to give—and who is organized enough to make sure great conversations turn into lasting relationships and support.

About MCBC

The Marin County Bicycle Coalition is a nonprofit organization dedicated to creating a healthy, connected, and sustainable Marin by making bicycling safe and accessible for everyone.

We work with local governments, schools, businesses, and thousands of community members to improve bicycling for everyday transportation and recreation throughout Marin County.

We also happen to think working for bikes is a pretty great way to make a living.

Position Summary

The Individual Giving Specialist will build relationships with MCBC members and donors and help grow our base of financial supporters.

The position will take the lead on individual donors giving under $5,000, with a particular focus on cultivating and growing relationships with mid-level donors giving $500–$4,999.

Our Executive Director personally manages donors giving $5,000 or more. You’ll help identify supporters who are ready to move to that level, introduce them into the Executive Director’s portfolio, and help keep those relationships moving forward.

You’ll also work closely with our Communications & Database Manager to bring new people into MCBC and create a pathway from bike enthusiast → supporter → member → donor → major donor.

Primary Responsibilities

Build Relationships & Raise Money

• Personally cultivate, solicit, and steward donors giving $500–$4,999.
• Meet supporters for coffee, lunch, a bike ride, at an event—or wherever relationships naturally happen.
• Learn what motivates our donors and connect their interests to MCBC’s work.
• Ask people to join, renew, increase their giving, and invest in MCBC.
• Identify donors with the interest and capacity to give $5,000+ and transition those relationships to the Executive Director.
• Help the Executive Director maintain momentum with major donors by identifying priorities, preparing for meetings, and making sure follow-up happens.

Grow Our Community of Supporters

• Partner with the Communications & Database Manager to grow MCBC’s audience, membership, and donor base.
• Develop creative ways to turn people who love bicycling into people who actively support MCBC.
• Welcome new members and donors and create opportunities for them to become more involved.
• Help engage board members, current donors, members, and other MCBC champions in introducing new people to our work.

Bring People Together

• Work as a team with our Events/Volunteer/Sponsorship Manager on MCBC’s gala and two other annual fundraising events.
• Help fill the room with current and prospective donors, community leaders, sponsors, and people who care about bicycling.
• Work the room: welcome people, make introductions, build relationships, and identify future supporters.
• Follow up after events so a great evening turns into deeper engagement and giving.
• Occasionally identify and pursue strong-fit foundation, corporate, or other grant opportunities.

Qualifications

We’re looking for someone who:

• Loves bicycling and wants to share that enthusiasm with others.
• Genuinely enjoys meeting new people and building relationships.
• Is warm, confident, engaging, and comfortable asking people for money.
• Can talk comfortably with everyone from a first-time member to a significant donor or community leader.
• Is proactive and naturally follows up rather than waiting for someone else to make the next move.
• Is organized, detail-oriented, and able to manage a portfolio of relationships without letting opportunities fall through the cracks.
• Is comfortable helping keep a busy Executive Director focused on major-donor priorities.
• Collaborates well and enjoys being part of a small, mission-driven team.
• Has experience in fundraising, donor relations, membership, sales, business development, community engagement, or another relationship-focused field.

Nonprofit fundraising experience is valuable, but we’re also interested in candidates from other backgrounds who have demonstrated success building relationships and inspiring people to take action.

Compensation & Benefits

• Salary: $80,000 - $110,000, depending on experience.

This position involves regular in-person interaction with donors, members, and community partners throughout Marin County, as well as occasional evening and weekend events.
