    The AS Instructor (In-Person) is responsible for program implementation, classroom management, adjusting lesson plans to fit the needs of students, and communication with parents. They will have one primary class that they lead and work with.

Through our holistic, whole-child approach, we empower DC youth to transform not only their own lives but also the communities they belong to. Our after-school programs, operating in 4 elementary schools, cater to over 300 students during the school year.

The ability to work both independently and as part of a team while consistently meeting deadlines is crucial. A patient, adaptable, and flexible attitude is valued, as is the willingness to work outdoors with youth.     Duties & Responsibilities

    Program and Curriculum Implementation

    • Arrives to site on time
    • Reviews and adjusts lesson plans to fit student and classroom needs
    • Implements curriculum during in-person after school program (academics, enrichment, KP Circles)
    • Helps prepare, adjust, and implement additional program activities in accordance with Kid Power and DCPS standards
    • Communicates effectively with senior staff regarding implementation issues
    • Actively participates in activities and models positive behavior to students and staff
    • Practices, institutionalizes, and professionalizes the language of Advancing Youth Development.
    • Assists with student registration and parent outreach as needed

    Youth Issues

    • Supervises all youth activity during program time ensuring the safety and well-being of all youth participants
    • Creates and implements classroom and individual incentive program and other behavioral management systems
    • Reports all major behavioral issues to supervisors
    • Adheres to Kid Power behavior management system and implements consequences accordingly
    • Immediately reports any child abuse or neglect issues to the attention of supervisors

    Administrative Duties

    • Tracks student attendance daily
    • Completes and submits incident reports as needed
    • Ensures completion of all youth and teacher surveys throughout the school year
    • Attends and is on time for each team meeting
    • Effectively communicates with supervisors about administrative duties and daily task

    External Partners

    • Maintains a professional relationship with all program partners
    • Communicates daily with DCPS’ after school coordinator and teachers about student issues, homework, classroom cleanliness, meal provision, and attendance
    • Maintains a professional relationship with all program partners on-site and communicates with Kid Power supervisors whenever any issues arise
    • Ensures communication with 100% of parents in the program weekly
    • Schedules and attends meetings with parents/guardians when needed regarding youth issues

    Staff and Volunteer Management

    • Manages volunteers and Federal Work Study (FWS) team members as applicable

    Development and Special Events

    • Attends occasional special events (family engagement nights, produce pop-ups, fundraisers, etc). (These events will all be paid at an hourly rate)
    • Assists with occasional development tasks, as needed.

    Other

    • If calling out sick, will let supervisor know by 9 AM that morning
    • Follows all mandatory guidelines required by DCPS and Kid Power

    General

    • Attends all pertinent trainings and team meetings.
    • Communicates regularly with supervisory team members about program quality and specific youth issues.
    • Responds to all communications and correspondence within 24-hours.

    Time Frame: All dates subject to change

    • Training: Mid-September
    • Programming: September 15 - June 17, 2026
    • 17 - 22 hours per week
    • Monday to Friday, 2:30 - 6:00p
    • Regular meetings and trainings

    Job Type: Part-time

    Pay: $18.00 - $24.00 per hour

    Ability to commute/relocate:

    • Washington, DC: Reliably commute or planning to relocate before starting work (Required)

    Experience:

    • Childcare: 1 year (Preferred)

    License/Certification:

    • Active DCPS Contractor Clearance (Preferred)
