    ABOUT THE ROLE:

    The Director of Out of School Time (OST) Programs provides strategic and operational leadership for all out of school time programs at USES, including club 48, the Children's Arts Centre (CAC), and Camp Hale. This role oversees program quality, enrollment health, staffing performance, compliance, financial sustainability, and innovation across year-round and seasonal programs.

    The Director of OST is responsible for designing, implementing, and continuously refining high quality youth programming grounded in best practices. This includes the development of new initiatives, such as a comprehensive teen program, aligned with evolving organizational and community needs.

    Reporting directly to the CEO, this leader ensures that programs are mission aligned, developmentally strong, data driven, and positioned for long term sustainability.

    WHAT YOU WILL DO:

    The primary responsibilities of the role are as follows:

    Strategic Leadership and Program Design

    • Provide vision and long-term strategy for club48, Camp Hale, CAC, and emerging youth initiatives
    • Design and launch new programming in accordance with organizational and strategic plan
    • Align program models with current research and best practices in youth development and out of school time learning
    • Conduct annual program review and strategic planning cycles

    Data, Evaluation and Continuous Improvement

    • Establish clear metrics for program effectiveness, including enrollment, attendance, retention, youth engagement, safety, and outcomes
    • In close partnership with the Strategy & Impact Officer, oversee implementation of systems for tracking and analyzing program data and ensure accuracy and timeliness of data.
    • Use data to inform staffing decisions, resource allocation, curriculum adjustments, and program expansion
    • Monitor enrollment trends and participation data to drive recruitment strategy
    • Report program performance to senior leadership and board as needed
    • Ensure grant and compliance reporting requirements are met accurately and on time
    • Implement continuous improvement cycles based on measurable outcomes

    Program Oversight and Quality Assurance

    • Ensure consistent program quality and alignment across club 48, CAC, and Camp Hale
    • Own responsibility of parent satisfaction for OST programs ensuring that communication is regular, orientation is strong, and feedback is responded to in a timely manner.
    • Ensure that the OST programs maintain all required licenses and accreditations for both NH and MA.
    • Establish clear standards for curriculum implementation, student engagement, and behavioral expectations
    • Conduct regular site visits and structured program reviews
    • Strengthen safety systems, compliance practices, and operational procedures

    Team Leadership and Accountability

    • Supervise OST program managers and site leaders, specifically the club48 Associate Director, the Camp Hale Associate Director, and the Arts Program Manager.
    • Hold managers accountable to clearly defined performance goals
    • Implement structured supervision, goal setting, and professional development plans
    • Build internal leadership capacity and succession planning

    Enrollment and Financial Stewardship

    • Monitor enrollment and revenue across programs
    • Develop and adjust recruitment and retention strategies based on participation data
    • Partner with finance team to manage budgets and ensure fiscal health
    • Align staffing models with enrollment demand and cost efficiency

    Teen Program Development

    • Assess community need and develop framework for a comprehensive teen program
    • Pilot, evaluate, and refine teen programming based on participation and outcome data
    • Align new initiatives with mission priorities and financial sustainability

    Program Leadership

    • Operate as an enterprise leader across multiple programs (club48, Camp Hale, and the CAC)
      • Manage Camp Hale team to ensure enrollment, hiring, planning, and partnerships are happening in the off season months and that Camp Hale is running successful summer programs for children, family camp, and rentals.
      • Manage club48 team to ensure enrollment goals are met, school-year and summer programming is running successfully, and educators are supported.
      • Manage Children's’ Art Centre program to ensure that quality art classes are happening as scheduled, arts program staff are supported, and the space is maintained.
    • Align practice with research-based youth development models
    • Build systems that outlast individual leaders
    • Reinforce a culture of belonging, accountability, and high expectations

    • Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to manage competing priorities
    • Able to exercise sound judgment and maintain appropriate confidentiality
    • Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education, Child Development, Child Guidance, Human Services, Psychology, Education, Child Psychology, or a related field preferred

    LOCATION + TRAVEL:

    The Director of Out of School Time Programs oversees two programs located at our headquarters in Boston, MA (club48 and CAC), as well as our summer camp, Camp Hale, located in Sandwich, New Hampshire.

    Because Camp Hale is running at the same time as club48 is operating at full days during summer break, the Director of OST will need to have a physical presence at both locations during the summer months. For summer 2026, this will look like alternating weeks between our Boston headquarters and our New Hampshire Camp Hale location.

    During the summer, the Director of OOST will support Camp Hale transitions between sessions, including supporting the Associate Director of Camp Hale in managing bus pickups/drop-offs. Since the transitions between sessions take place during weekends, this role will require work during most weekends during the summer months. When weekend time is required, there is flexibility to have time off during the week. The Director of OST will also be asked to attend certain special events at Camp, including key donor meetings. While at Camp, room and board (including meals) will be provided, and mileage will be reimbursed for travel between MA and NH.

    Outside of the summer months, this role will be based at our headquarters in Boston, MA.

    PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS (with or without accommodation)

    • Must be able to climb, stoop, reach, stand, lift, feel, talk, hear, and be capable of repetitive motion
    • Position requires exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly
    • Work requires close visual acuity

    COMPENSATION + BENEFITS:

    The salary range for this role is $75,000 - $80,000, commensurate with experience. USES offers its staff a robust compensation and benefits package including access to high-quality health, dental and vision benefits, a 403B plan and generous paid time off.

    USES’s club48 Out of School Time program challenges children to become confident problem solvers and complex thinkers. We serve up to 52 children, ages 5–12, who are enrolled in public school grades K1 through 7. Our Group Leaders design and facilitate engaging, STEAM-focused lessons in a structured and supportive afterschool environment. Through intentional programming, we build confidence, resilience, leadership skills, and healthy relationships that foster strong self-esteem while children learn, grow, and have fun. The club48 program operates year-round and is open Monday through Friday, from 2:00pm to 6:00 pm. We expand to full-day programming (8:00am-6:00pm) on BPS Snow Days, School Vacations and over the summer. We offer sliding scale Department of Early Education and Care subsidized slots and accept vouchers.

    Established in 1900, Camp Hale is a sleepaway summer camp for Boston-area youth ages 6 to 17 years old to experience a range of outdoor activities in the scenic environment of Squam Lake, located in the Lakes Region of New Hampshire. Camp Hale transforms youth into resilient leaders as they discover the wonders of nature, build a diverse community, and embrace challenging experiences. We operate on the belief that all youth benefit from opportunities for physical, mental, and social growth and development. The goal is for campers to leave with an enhanced sense of well-being, improved social skills, and awareness of personal potential.
