    US Habitat Restoration Project Manager (full time)

    Location: Hybrid or In-office, Maine

    The Atlantic Salmon Federation (ASF) is an international conservation organization founded in 1948 to

    conserve and restore wild Atlantic salmon and their ecosystems. ASF is headquartered in St. Andrews,

    N.B., and maintains offices in Maine, Quebec, and throughout Atlantic Canada. With a staff of more than

    50-professionals and a network of more than 10,000 members and volunteers, we are the leading North

    American organization focused on wild Atlantic salmon.

    Overview

    The Project Manager supports ASF’s leads in the planning, permitting, execution and monitoring of

    habitat restoration and conservation projects that support Atlantic salmon recovery. The role integrates

    technical project management, stakeholder engagement, communications and outreach, advocacy, and

    strategic contributions aligned with ASF’s strategic plan.

    Responsibilities and Duties

    Responsibilities will include but are not limited to:

    • Plan, permit, and oversee construction of habitat restoration projects from feasibility through
    • post-construction monitoring.
    • Manage multiple projects simultaneously, ensuring timelines, budgets, and deliverables are met.
    • Coordinate with engineers, contractors, consultants, and regulatory bodies.
    • Secure permits and ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations.
    • Build and maintain partnerships with municipalities, landowners, NGOs, agencies, and tribal
    • governments.
    • Provide support for ASF’s policy and advocacy efforts.
    • Support fundraising, grant applications, reporting, and donor engagement.
    • Conduct outreach, public engagement, and communications activities.
    • Perform fieldwork and oversee construction in remote and physically demanding environments.
    • Participate in organizational planning, budgeting, and internal collaboration.

    Competencies, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

    • Project Management & Execution: Effectively plans, prioritizes, and delivers multiple complex restoration projects, ensuring alignment with timelines, budgets, and regulatory requirements.
    • Technical & Environmental Expertise: Applies specialized knowledge of habitat restoration, aquatic ecosystems, permitting processes, and environmental monitoring to drive project success.
    • Stakeholder Engagement & Collaboration: Builds and maintains strong partnerships across government, Indigenous communities, NGOs, contractors, and landowners to advance shared conservation outcomes.
    • Communication: Delivers clear, compelling verbal and written communication across technical, public, and stakeholder audiences, including reporting, grants, and outreach.
    • Strategic Thinking & Organizational Awareness: Integrates project execution with broader conservation strategy while navigating internal and external relationships effectively.
    • Problem Solving & Decision Making: Addresses complex environmental and regulatory challenges with sound judgment, analytical thinking, and independent decision-making.
    • Financial & Grant Management: Manages budgets, contracts, and funding processes, including grant writing, reporting, and resource allocation.
    • Adaptability & Drive for Results: Demonstrates resilience, initiative, and a strong action orientation in dynamic environments, balancing field demands and competing priorities.
    • Technical Skills: Excellent computer literacy and comfort using Microsoft suite, email, Teams, etc.

    Education and Experience:

    An equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.

    Education: Degree in environmental science, ecology, natural resource management, engineering, or related field. Graduate or advanced degree preferred but not required.

    Experience: Minimum 5 years working in project management in environmental restoration or Atlantic salmon conservation. Must possess a valid driver’s license.

    Compensation

    ASF offers a competitive salary and benefits package including 403(b) retirement account with matching contributions, vacation pay, sick leave, and health/dental and life insurance. The salary range for the position is $64,400 – 96,600.

    Starting salary will be determined based on qualifications of the successful candidate.
