The Office Manager is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day administrative and operational functions of the Center for Study of Responsive Law, a nonprofit organization based in Washington, DC. The Center for Study of Responsive Law was founded by Ralph Nader in 1968 as his principal office. Since then it has sponsored a wide variety of books, organizing projects, litigation and has hosted hundreds of conferences focusing on government and corporate accountability. One of the Center’s primary goals is to empower citizens. The Center focuses on a variety of environmental, consumer and worker health and safety issues.
This role ensures efficient office systems, supports staff and leadership, and helps maintain compliance with organizational policies and applicable regulations. The ideal candidate is highly organized, proactive, and comfortable managing multiple priorities in a mission-driven environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage daily office operations, including scheduling, correspondence, answering and directing phone calls, greeting visitors, and general administrative coordination.[2][1]
- Maintain organizational records, files, and databases, ensuring accuracy, confidentiality, and accessibility.
- Process invoices, track expenses, maintain financial and administrative records, and assist with basic bookkeeping tasks as needed.
- Assist with document management and archival duties, including both paper and electronic records.
- Coordinate logistics for meetings and events, including preparing materials, managing calendars, arranging conference rooms or offsite space, and providing on-site support.
- Monitor and maintain office supplies and equipment.
- Provide general administrative support to program staff as needed, including drafting correspondence and formatting documents.
- Strong organizational skills, with the ability to handle a variety of tasks, prioritize effectively, and meet deadlines.
- Proficiency in typing and in standard office software.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to exercise discretion with confidential information and to work independently.
Compensación
- Benefits include employer-sponsored health insurance and two weeks of paid vacation annually; additional paid holidays and sick leave are provided in accordance with District of Columbia law and organizational policy.
