    Make a Real Difference in South Los Angeles

    Los Angeles City Council President Marqueece Harris-Dawson is seeking a motivated, organized, and community-centered Field Deputy to serve the residents of the Eighth Council District.

    About Council President Harris-Dawson:

    Council President Harris-Dawson is a transformative leader dedicated to uplifting South Los Angeles through equitable policy, community empowerment, and grassroots advocacy. As the first Council President from the 8th District, he champions housing justice, economic opportunity, and community safety while centering the voices of those most impacted by systemic inequality. Working alongside him means being part of a team that doesn’t just respond to problems—we collaborate with residents to build lasting solutions that strengthen neighborhoods and create pathways to prosperity.

    Position Summary:

    The Field Deputy serves as a key representative of the Council President, acting as a liaison to constituents, community-based organizations (including schools and faith institutions), local businesses, City departments, government agencies, and other stakeholders throughout the district. This role offers the unique opportunity to be on the front lines of community change—turning residents’ concerns into action, building coalitions around shared priorities, and directly improving lives across South LA. The ideal candidate brings a strong commitment to public service, a passion for South Los Angeles, excellent communication and relationship-building skills, and the ability to thrive as part of a dynamic, mission-driven team.

    Duties and Responsibilities:

    • Serve as a liaison for the Council President at community meetings, events, and stakeholder engagements;
    • Manage and resolve constituent casework and service requests in coordination with City departments;
    • Plan and execute community events that engage residents, families, and district partners;
    • Prepare the Council President for events by advancing logistics and drafting briefings and talking points;
    • Track district priorities, recommend strategies to advance those priorities, and support execution of the Council Office’s strategic plan;
    • Organize neighborhoods, individuals, and coalitions around key community issues and initiatives;
    • Perform other duties as assigned.

    Additional Skills and Requirements:

    • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends;
    • Strong oral and written communication skills;
    • Knowledge of Council District Eight and Los Angeles City government functions;
    • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively with a diverse range of stakeholders;
    • Experience in civic engagement and/or advocacy preferred, but not required;
    • Bachelor’s degree preferred; Spanish-language proficiency is a plus, but not required.

    Salary and Benefit Information:

    • Starting salary $64,000-$73,000 based on experience. Please submit a cover letter and résumé.
