About RepresentUs
RepresentUs fuels a grassroots movement to make government answer to people, not just the powerful. We believe no one should be above the law, and we build the constituent pressure, cross-ideological audiences, and engaged communities that make Congress act.
We’re a scrappy, high-energy team that punches well above our weight: seasoned political campaigners, communications professionals, policy experts, and organizers. We’re nimble, constantly learning and iterating, and we push ourselves to ignore industry standards and set new ones. We take the mission seriously and take care of each other.
About the Role
RepresentUs is building a Local Action Team (LAT) in Maine’s 2nd Congressional District as part of the Congressional Courage Campaign. The LAT is a grassroots group of ME-2 constituents who meet regularly for organizing and educational activities, engage directly with their members of Congress, and take visible public actions on RepresentUs’s accountability and reform agenda. As Field Organizer, your primary task will be to stand up a strong, sustainable LAT, designed to take meaningful action in 2026 and beyond.
Reporting to the Campaign Advisor and working closely with a local consultant in Maine, the Field Organizer will lead the day-to-day recruitment, relationship-building, and coordination of the ME-2 LAT from July through December 2026. You’ll work across a geographically vast district, anchored in Bangor and Lewiston, with a civic culture built for exactly this kind of organizing: high voter turnout, strong town meeting traditions, and an appetite for direct democratic participation. You’ll be supported by national RepresentUs staff and a State Advisory Council of influential Maine civic figures.
This is a part-time, in-person role based in Maine, with a focus on organizing in Lewiston–Auburn, Bangor/Orono, and Augusta. Candidates must be residents of Maine’s 2nd Congressional District or Maine-based and able to work in the district.
What You’ll Be Doing
Recruitment and Outreach (40%)
- Take over day-to-day recruitment from national staff upon hire; build the LAT from RepresentUs’s existing ME-2 member list and voter file outreach
- Conduct phone banking and in-person outreach to identify and cultivate prospective LAT members across the district
- Organize and host the first LAT meeting (target: late July), helping participants understand the commitment and what they’re being asked to do
- Build toward a core team of 5+ consistent participants and a mobilization list of 15–35 supporters by end of September
LAT Coordination and leadership development (25%)
- Facilitate regular team meetings (virtual and in-person) to coordinate, debrief visits, and plan next actions
- Lead preparation and execution of district office visits to Jared Golden’s office every 6 weeks, including scheduling, briefing participants, delivering specific asks, documenting outcomes, and following up in writing
- Make initial contact with Golden’s district office upon hire; establish an ongoing constituent relationship
- Identify and develop 3 core leaders within the LAT; support their growth toward running team actions independently
- Coordinate with national RepresentUs staff on training materials, tailored talking points, and district-specific asks
- Assist RepresentUs staff in scenario-planning for incoming Representative pending election outcomes, and prepare LAT members for 2027 cycle plan dependent on election results
Public action and visibility (25%)
- Support LAT members in taking public-facing action: letters to the editor, op-eds, community tabling, local events, social media engagement, and more
- Help plan and execute the LAT’s first public-facing action in August
- Work with the State Advisory Council (SAC) and national staff to amplify the LAT’s visibility and credibility in the district
- Maintain a nonpartisan, cross-ideological approach through the November election; build constituent credibility with all campaigns
Administration and coordination (10%)
- Maintain accurate records of LAT participants, contacts, and outreach activity
- Attend regular check-ins with national RepresentUs staff
- Coordinate logistics for in-person events including venue, materials, and travel across ME-2
What We’re Looking For
- Maine resident, ideally within ME-2 (the 2nd Congressional District), with strong knowledge of the district’s communities, geography, and civic culture
- Experience in community organizing, field organizing, political campaigns, or volunteer management
- Relationship builder: warm, persistent, and skilled at moving people from initial interest to sustained commitment
- Comfortable working across ideological lines and reaching people who don’t see themselves as political activists
- Self-directed and organized: able to manage a complex workload, track relationships and follow-ups, and report back clearly to a remote team
- Strong communicator — in person, on the phone, and in writing
- Committed to the fight against corruption and concentrated power undermining American democracy
- Able to work flexible hours, including some evenings and weekends for meetings and events
- Comfortable with travel across a large, rural district
A plus:
- Existing relationships in ME-2 civic organization and local media
- Experience with voter file tools (VAN, Blocks, or similar) and phone banking
- Familiarity with RepresentUs, the Congressional Courage Campaign, or the accountability/reform/pro-democracy/anti-corruption space
