    Descripción

The Communications Coordinator joins the Communications team in supporting and promoting Northwest Maritime and all of its activities, projects, and brands. Northwest Maritime is a fun, fast-moving place where we don’t do B work—we’re all about creating impact, from kids’ programs and adventure races to tackling big issues like education, equity, and maritime workforce development across the region! In this role, you will help to create, implement, and keep current communications materials and coordinate across all our teams to achieve these objectives. The ideal candidate will also be able to jump in and help out the team wherever needed—from updating flyers and adding events to community events calendars, to creating engaging social media content and more.

    PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Serve as a communications generalist, contributing to a variety of projects across design, social media, content creation, event support, and administrative coordination
    • Design and produce digital and print products (e.g., brochures, booklets, stickers, flyers, t-shirts, social graphics, and more) using Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign)
    • Apply visual design principles—including typography, color theory, layout, and brand consistency—to digital and print materials, while maintaining a keen eye for spelling, grammar, and overall content accuracy
    • Help post content across social media platforms (Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, LinkedIn) using scheduling tools like Hootsuite, Buffer, or Sprout Social, and support gathering data on the success of these efforts
    • Work with Communications team to conceive and develop engaging content in various formats (text, images, video, graphics) for use in social media and other promotional materials
    • Collaborate with Communications team and with other departments across Northwest Maritime using project management software (Monday.com)
    • Support the organization during event seasons (e.g., Adventure Races and Wooden Boat Festival) by taking on overflow duties and miscellaneous assignments as needed

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

    • 2+ years experience in communications, marketing, or social media
    • Proficiency in graphic design software, especially Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Premiere); Canva or Mailchimp often preferred for quick-turn projects
    • Demonstrable graphic, video, & social media skills
    • High attention to detail to ensure brand consistency, design & writing quality, and error-free copy
    • Ability to multitask and collaborate effectively with internal and external partners
    • Professionalism regarding time management, costs, and deadlines
    • Can-do, problem-solving attitude, not afraid of testing out new technology and approaches
    • Brings energy and approachability to the team while demonstrating sound judgment and professionalism in all contexts
