The annual pay range for this position is $114,000 - $149,000. Actual offers will be based on skills, qualifications, experience, internal equity, and other relevant business considerations. We anticipate hiring within a target range of $125,000 - $135,000 for this position.

ORGANIZATIONAL PROFILE: 

For more than 43 million people, blindness is a daily reality; another 295 million suffer from moderate to severe vision impairment. 90% of these people live in low- and middle-income countries where access to eye care is limited and the challenges for those who can’t see are severe. But there is hope: 80% of this burden is treatable or preventable. For example, 17 million blind people could be cured with a 10-minute cataract surgery. Millions more suffer from corneal blindness, which is often preventable or treatable. At Cure Blindness Project, we believe avoidable blindness can – and must – be overcome. For more than 30 years, we have worked alongside a capable network of collaborators to help people around the world retain and regain their sight by developing high-quality, cost-effective eye care systems in underserved areas of the world. With the help of partners in more than 30 countries, Cure Blindness Project has provided more than 2 million sight-restoring surgeries and screened more than 20 million people to provide care and basic treatments. We’ve trained more than 25,200 eye health professionals and have established 6 eye hospitals. There is more work left to do, but we can overcome the mountain of global blindness together.

SCOPE OF WORK:

The Senior Director, Global Accounting leads Cure Blindness Project’s global accounting function, ensuring accurate financial reporting, strong internal controls, compliance, and responsible financial stewardship across all country offices.

Reporting to the CFO, this role oversees accounting operations for U.S. headquarters and country offices, including monthly close processes, consolidations, financial statements, audits, tax and regulatory reporting, and accounting policies.

The position partners with finance, program, development, operations, and country teams to strengthen systems, improve accounting processes, support compliance, and build accounting capacity across the organization.

As a key finance leader and trusted advisor to the CFO, the Senior Director provides leadership, mentorship, and guidance while upholding high standards of financial integrity, transparency, and accountability.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

Global Accounting Leadership

• Lead and oversee all global accounting operations, ensuring the integrity, accuracy, and timeliness of financial information across the organization.
• Develop and implement accounting strategies, policies, and procedures that support organizational goals and compliance requirements.
• Provide leadership, coaching, and performance management for accounting staff and foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
• Support grant accounting, donor reporting, and restricted fund management activities in collaboration with relevant departments.

Global Monthly Close Process Management

• Direct the monthly financial close processes and ensure timely preparation of accurate financial statements.
• Oversee preparation of consolidated financial reports.
• Ensure compliance with U.S. GAAP, nonprofit accounting standards, donor requirements, and applicable statutory reporting requirements.
• Review and approve accounting entries, reconciliations, and supporting documentation to ensure completeness and accuracy.
• Implement and manage monthly financial allocations to ensure fair and accurate grant allocations to projects and programs

Global Accounting Process Oversight

• Provide strategic oversight of global accounting functions and support local finance teams in meeting organizational and statutory requirements.
• Ensure compliance with local tax, audit, payroll, and financial reporting obligations in countries where the organization operates.
• Establish and maintain effective accounting policies and procedures that promote consistency across global accounting operations.
• Monitor emerging accounting and regulatory developments and recommend appropriate organizational responses.

Global Accounting Internal Controls and Risk Management

• Design, implement, and monitor a robust system of internal controls to safeguard organizational assets and ensure financial integrity.
• Lead periodic assessments of financial risks and internal control effectiveness and implement corrective actions as needed.
• Ensure adherence to organizational policies, donor regulations, and financial governance standards.
• Support fraud prevention, compliance monitoring, and organizational risk management activities.

Global Financial Systems and Process Improvement

• Oversee the effectiveness of financial systems, accounting workflows, and reporting tools.
• Identify opportunities to improve operational efficiency, strengthen controls, and enhance reporting capabilities.
• Lead implementation of accounting system enhancements and other finance transformation initiatives.
• Develop and maintain documentation of accounting processes, procedures, and controls.

QUALIFICATIONS:  

Experience

Education

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field required.
• Certified Public Accountant (CPA) required; international accounting certifications considered a plus.
• Master's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field preferred.

Experience

• 15+ years of nonprofit accounting and financial management experience, including 5+ years in senior leadership.
• Experience leading global accounting operations for complex international nonprofit organizations.
• Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP, nonprofit and fund accounting, restricted funding, donor compliance, and internal controls.
• Experience overseeing close processes, consolidations, financial statements, audits, Form 990, and regulatory filings.
• Experience developing accounting policies, financial governance practices, and process improvements.
• Experience supporting multi-country operations, including statutory, tax, payroll, foreign currency, and compliance requirements.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially Excel, and enterprise financial management systems, especially Sage Intacct.
• Ability to work across time zones and travel domestically and internationally as needed.
