    The Marin County Bicycle Coalition (MCBC) is seeking a strategic, diplomatic, and

    politically astute Policy & Planning Director to lead our Road Program and advance safe,

    convenient bicycling for people of all ages and abilities throughout Marin County.

    This position is ideal for a skilled advocate who can build strong relationships, interpret

    complex planning and engineering documents, and communicate a compelling vision for

    a connected network of protected and separated bike routes.

    About MCBC

    The Marin County Bicycle Coalition is a nonprofit organization dedicated to creating a

    healthy, connected, and sustainable Marin by promoting bicycling for everyday

    transportation and recreation. We work with local governments, schools, businesses, and

    thousands of community members to improve bicycling throughout Marin County.

    Position Summary

    The Policy & Planning Director serves on MCBC’s leadership team and is a key

    public-facing driver of the organization’s success. They oversee MCBC’s Road Program

    and identify and implement advocacy campaigns that make bicycling safe and convenient

    for people of all ages and abilities through better infrastructure.

    Primary Responsibilities

    Advocacy & Policy

    • Promote and advocate for a vision of connected bike routes that are protected or separated from vehicle traffic.
    • Represent Marin’s bicycling community at the local, regional, and state levels on policy, planning, and funding matters.
    • Educate advocates, elected officials, and agency staff on best practices in bikeway design and delivery.
    • Oversee the development of local city- and town-based bike advocacy groups.

    Public Leadership & Communications

    • Together with the Executive Director, represent the organization to the public, press, and membership, including responding to controversies and political attacks.
    • Together with the Communications and Engagement Manager, craft written communications that demonstrate the importance of our work, often in pursuit of political action and/or fundraising.
    • Cultivate relationships with elected officials, agency staff, community leaders, and MCBC members.

    Qualifications

    We’re looking for someone who:

    • Has a strong belief in MCBC’s mission and values bicycling and bike-friendly communities.
    • Is a strategic and political thinker.
    • Writes and speaks articulately.
    • Is diplomatic, but tough, in negotiations.
    • Can interpret dense planning and engineering documents and communicate that information clearly to lay audiences.
    • Is effective under pressure.
    • Possesses a bachelor’s degree in a related subject, such as Urban Planning,

    Political Science, or Environmental Studies. Relevant professional experience may substitute for degree relevance; a master’s degree is preferred.

    Compensación

    Salary: $110,000 - $117,000, depending on experience.

    • Excellent benefits package.
    • Twenty-eight days of paid time off per year, including nine holidays, 15 days of flexible paid time off, and the four workdays between Christmas and New Year’s.
    • Highly flexible remote work arrangement.
