About NESCAUM

Headquartered in Boston, The Northeast States for Coordinated Air Use Management (NESCAUM) is the nonprofit association of state air quality agencies in Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Rhode Island, and Vermont. NESCAUM is governed by a Board of Directors composed of the lead state air quality officials in these states and has a staff of dedicated professionals with expertise in science, technology, and policy. NESCAUM’s mission is to provide scientific, technical, analytical, and policy support to state air quality and climate programs in the Northeast. To accomplish this, NESCAUM participates in regional and national dialogues, works closely with states inside and outside the region on shared policy goals and initiatives, conducts research and analysis, helps create regional policy solutions, facilitates information sharing among states, and sponsors training programs.

Job Summary

NESCAUM is seeking to fill a full-time position for an Environmental Analyst to join our team. In this position, you will contribute to NESCAUM’s work providing technical support for policy work involving stationary and area sources, stack sampling, and ambient air monitoring. The Analyst will evaluate data from NESCAUM’s biomass-heating programs and support policy development in the thermal-heating sector. The successful candidate will collaborate effectively with government agencies, contractors, and stakeholders. The role requires excellent written and oral communication, facilitation, organization, and project-management skills in both in-person and remote settings. This position will be based in our Boston office or can be remote, Northeast U.S. preferred.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Analyze data and develop reports based on original research gathered under NESCAUM’s residential wood heating projects.
• Provide project management support to ongoing projects.
• Create data visualizations to make complex data accessible to a non-technical audience.
• Coordinate with staff from state and federal agencies, the private sector, industry experts and environmental advocacy organizations.
• Produce high-quality written and analytic materials, sometimes on short deadlines.
• Represent NESCAUM at meetings and conferences. Some travel is required. 
• Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

• A bachelor’s degree in a relevant field
• A minimum of 5 years of relevant work experience
• experience working in government is a plus. Master’s degree in a relevant field may substitute for up to two years of work experience.

• Strong oral and written communication skills to explain complex technical and analytical information in a clear and understandable way
• Strong analytical, quantitative, and technical research skills;
• Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail;
• Ability to work both independently and collaboratively;
• Proven ability to manage multiple assignments at once and meet deadlines;
• Legally eligible to work in the U.S.

Compensation and Benefits

The approximate salary range is $75,000-$100,000; salary and title will be based on candidate experience, skills, training, internal team equity, and market data.
