Global Social Media & Community Manager
Descripción
Descripción
The Global Social Media & Online Community Manager owns Technovation's social presence and the health of the communities. The job has two main objectives:
- The first is strengthening the community by amplifying their voice by recruiting and activating a distributed network of alum, mentors, educators, and chapter volunteers who post about Technovation on their own channels, and enabling the conditions that make members want to talk to each other rather than only to us!
- The second objective will be to strengthen Technovation’s brand and activities broadly - through producing the day-to-day social content, using Technovation's brand design system, which is built into our Claude workspace.
We are a lean team serving a very large global community, so initiative, courage, and strategic thinking are critical. You will have room to run experiments, retire processes that stopped working, and push back on "we have always done it this way." We are looking for someone who decides what matters, says no to the rest, and moves without waiting for a brief or permission.
Key Responsibilities
Community Building and the Alum Network
- Recruit, onboard, and activate a distributed network of alums, mentors, educators, and chapter volunteers as Social Ambassadors and content contributors. Own recruitment, training, recognition, and retention across the full lifecycle of the contributors.
- Lower the barrier to contributing. Build and maintain the prompt kits, templates, and asset packs ambassadors need, drawing on our design system, then support contributors enough that they keep posting.
- Build the connection between our youth alums and the Women Techmakers community. 87% of our alums over 18 are pursuing or planning STEM degrees, and they are the natural next generation of the Women Techmakers membership.
- Cultivate peer-to-peer activity: member introductions, alum spotlights that lead to real connections, and recognition members want to share on their own profiles.
Women Techmakers
- Recruit, onboard, and activate a distributed network of Women Techmakers as Social Ambassadors and content contributors. Own recruitment, training, recognition, and retention across the full lifecycle of the contributors.
- Own Women Techmakers social channels with a content and platform approach built for an adult professional audience rather than borrowed from our youth programs.
- Coordinate closely with the team managing the other Women Techmakers community surfaces. You will be responsible for making sure the social presence and those surfaces reinforce each other: shared calendar, consistent messaging, warm handoffs of members between spaces, and a shared read on what members are asking for.
- Bring the Women Techmakers membership into Technovation's wider story where it serves both audiences, including International Women's Day and other moments the community already owns.
Content Production and Channel Ownership
- Own Technovation's global social presence across social platforms, including the content calendar, publishing cadence, platform strategy, and channel voice.
- Produce the majority of day-to-day social content, expedited with use of the Technovation Design System in Claude Design: graphics, carousels, stories, and short-form video
- Edit and assemble short-form video for social from events, program material, and contributor clips.
- Brief the creative team on the work that warrants their craft: flagship campaign creative, produced video, event assets, and anything high-stakes.
- Source and shape the stories worth telling by working across programs, Women Techmakers, chapters, and fundraising. A large share of this job is knowing where the good material is inside a global organization and getting to it before it goes cold.
- Turn ambassador and member content into a steady presence on our channels, with the permissions, credit, and quality standards that it requires.
- Identify moments in youth culture, education, and AI that Technovation can credibly join, and move quickly when one appears.
- Work within the brand language system and AI use policy, and within the visual brand system owned by our Senior Creative Technologist.
Moderation, Safety, and Responsiveness
- Own day-to-day community management across channels: comments, direct messages, mentions, and questions, with a real standard for how quickly and how well members get answered.
- Enforce child safeguarding practice across every channel. Technovation serves young people as young as 8, and media consent, participant privacy, and safe moderation are conditions of the role rather than parts of it.
- Escalate quickly and clearly when something requires the Director of Marketing or leadership.
Creators and Amplification Partners
- Identify, recruit, and manage relationships with creators who make content with or for Technovation, including STEM educators, youth creators, and mission-aligned voices.
- Coordinate with the Digital Engagement Manager, who owns distribution and placement partnerships where Technovation content appears on someone else's channel, so we approach external partners as one organization.
- Support fundraising, program launch, and event campaigns with community activation, working from campaign briefs rather than building campaigns from scratch.
Listening and Insight
- Monitor what the community is saying, asking, and struggling with, and bring that back to the marketing and programs teams as something actionable.
- Track social and community performance, and use it to decide what to do next. We care more about whether members are engaged, supported, and active than about follower counts.
- Report on community health to the Director of Marketing on a regular cadence, in partnership with the Digital Engagement Manager on cross-channel analytics.
Skills and Experience Required
4+ years in community management, social media, or audience engagement, with at least two years in a role where community building was the primary responsibility rather than a secondary one. Nonprofit or global community experience is a strong plus.
Community and Relationship Skills
- Demonstrated experience building an online community where members created value for each other, not only an audience that consumed content. You can describe what you did and how you knew it worked.
- Experience running a volunteer, ambassador, or creator program end to end: recruitment, activation, recognition, and retention.
- Ability to lead and motivate people you do not manage, across cultures, languages, and time zones.
- Experience working closely with UGC creators on collaborative processes and/or a demonstrated understanding of affiliate marketing or micro-influencer partnerships.
- Experience with adult professional communities as well as youth or student audiences, or a clear-eyed account of how you would learn the one you have not done.
- Prior experience with youth safeguarding, child protection practice, or platform safety policy.
Production Skills
- Ability to produce finished, on-brand social assets independently. We will give you a design system and the tools to use it. You should be someone who reaches for that rather than filing a request.
- Working short-form video skills for social: cutting, captioning, and assembling footage into something publishable. Specialist editing craft is not required and is not what this role is for.
- Comfort using AI tools to move faster on drafting, asset production, repurposing, and translation, and the judgment to know where they should not be used.
- Fluency across the platforms our communities actually use, with a point of view on which ones deserve our effort and which do not.
- Strong editorial judgment. You can tell the difference between a post that performs and a post that builds something, and you know when a piece of work needs the creative team rather than you.
- Excellent written communication in English. Additional languages are a significant plus given that our community spans 120+ countries.
- Working familiarity with social scheduling and listening tools, and with Asana, Slack, Canva, and Google Suite, or the ability to learn them quickly.
Ways of Working
- Self-starting and genuinely comfortable with ambiguity. You will be handed priorities, not instructions.
- Sound judgment about what to take on and what to decline. This role could absorb unlimited work, and the person who thrives will protect their own focus.
- Able to hold both halves of the job. Daily publishing will always feel more urgent than community building, but community building is the goal.
- Collaborative across a small, senior team where everyone owns a lane and the seams between lanes get worked out by talking.
- Honest about capacity. We would rather hear that something will slip than find out later.
Compensación
Our benefits include:
- 20 vacation days in addition to all federal holidays and sick time
- A paid organization wide week-long shutdown at the end of the year
- 100% cost coverage of medical, dental, and vision costs for employees and a portion of the cost for partners and dependents
- Life-insurance coverage
- 401k program with an organization match after two years
- Option to participate in FSA and DCA pre-tax programs
- Tenure bonus plan
- Remote work with core work hours and flexible scheduling
Nivel de Idiomas

Screening Task
- Tell us about a volunteer or ambassador program you built. How many people did you recruit, how did you support them to create value for each other, and what share became genuinely active? Tell us what you changed when contributors went quiet, and whether the change worked. Then tell us about one contributor you could not activate, and what you decided to do about it.
- Spend roughly twenty minutes with Technovation's and Women Techmakers' public channels. Tell us three things you noticed that we probably cannot see ourselves, and the one thing you would change in your first month. We are more interested in what you noticed than in whether you turn out to be right.
- 87% of our alums over 18 are pursuing or planning STEM degrees. Women Techmakers is a community of adult women working in tech. Those are arguably the same people at different life stages, but the communities are not yet connected. Sketch how you would approach bridging these communities.
- Most social content is now AI-generated and the volume is still climbing. Tell us one thing Technovation does on social today that you expect to stop working within eighteen months, and one thing you expect to matter more. Use our actual channels, not the industry in general.
