About Literacy New Jersey
Since 1979, Literacy New Jersey (formerly Literacy Volunteers of New Jersey) has been committed to strengthening New Jersey’s workforce, families, and communities by ensuring that free, high-quality literacy instruction is available to adults in every New Jersey community.
We provide free instruction to adults who need help with reading, writing, math, and speaking English. Trained volunteer tutors work one-on-one or in small groups with learners to help them improve their literacy and language skills so they can achieve their personal, professional, and educational goals. Our students represent some of the lowest levels of literacy, including those seeking to learn English as a Second Language, improve basic skills, prepare for the High School Equivalency exam, or become U.S. citizens.
