    Job Overview

    We are seeking a dedicated and passionate Family Law Attorney to join our Survivor Representation Project (SRP).

    The Survivor Representation Project Family Law Attorney plays a critical role in ensuring that victims become survivors by providing quality and trauma-informed full representation, limited scope representation and legal advice in Family Court matters including restraining orders, child support, and custody proceedings. Will work closely with the SRP Program Coordinator and Family Justice Center Director to ensure SRP provides responsive services to clients.

    Experience/Knowledge/Specialized Training:

    Must have a J.D. from an accredited law school and must be licensed to practice law in New Jersey. Must possess excellent advocacy and litigation skills with a knowledge of and sensitivity to the problems of domestic violence; ideal candidates will have a minimum of two years experience practicing family law. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Knowledge of computer programs including but not limited to Microsoft office, PowerPoint, and Excel. Bilingual English/Spanish preferred but not required.

    Essential Job Duties:

    This includes but is not limited to the following:

    • Providing legal representation, limited scope representation and advice, as appropriate, to qualified survivors of domestic violence in Union County Family Court in restraining order, custody and child support proceedings.
    • Coordinating representation, as needed, with the Immigration Attorney
    • Supervising and assigning work to the Court Advocate/Paralegal
    • Attending regular meetings for all stakeholders in project including internal YWCA team members and external Family Justice Center partners.
    • Becoming familiar with the partners and legal referrals used by the FJC and refer victims as necessary
    • Documentation: maintain case records for clients, and maintain other records as needed.
    • Assisting with any funder reporting requirements.
    • Completing the 40 Hour Domestic Violence training as provided by agency.
