    Who We Are

The Alliance for Safety and Justice is a multi-state organization that aims to replace ineffective criminal justice system policies with what works to keep people safe. We are organizers, policy advocates and experts, research and communications specialists, and grassroots mobilizers. We represent diverse crime survivors as well as people living with old records as key public safety stakeholders. We organize people most harmed by violence and incarceration, and through nonpartisan coalition building and strategic campaigning, we change laws in the large states to transform the nation. For more information, visit: https://allianceforsafetyandjustice.org.

Scaling Safety is a new national initiative jointly led by two prominent safety organizations: Alliance for Safety and Justice (ASJ) and Community-Based Public Safety Collective (CBPSC). Launched in January 2025, Scaling Safety aims to support the development of effective community-based prevention programs that empower residents and prevent crisis from becoming crime. Scaling Safety will act as an accelerator for promising interventions already happening at the grassroots level and, through technical know-how and flexible financial support, they will expand a range of “resident-powered prevention programs” that train residents to act as conflict mediators, peer counselors, victim advocates, and more. By equipping organizations and leaders with resources and skills to grow their impact, we aim to save lives, heal neighborhoods, and lay the foundation for a new approach to public safety. Over the next five years, Scaling Safety will invest in and accelerate a range of programs in Austin, Texas; Cleveland, Ohio; Jackson, Mississippi; Miami, Florida; and Tucson, Arizona. We aim to double access to crisis assistance and reduce violence by up to 50%.

    Who You Are

The Training and Technical Assistance (TTA) Specialist plays a crucial role in enhancing the capacity of a range of local community-based organizations that are part of the Scaling Safety Initiative and provide services such as victim assistance, reentry, mental health crisis assistance, and more. The ideal candidate has deep experience helping trusted community organizations scale up and expand their impact, experience with trauma-informed care, housing insecurity, and community violence, and experience providing hands-on support to organizations navigating complex service delivery and systems change.

This position will be responsible for designing and delivering tailored technical assistance, facilitating training, and supporting peer learning for a range of programs, with an emphasis on those that work at the intersections of community safety, survivor support, effective reentry, and housing stability.

This position is part of a larger Scaling Safety technical assistance team that includes Community-Based Public Safety Collective leadership as well as ASJ’s Director of Organizational Development, the person to whom this position reports. The TTA group meets regularly and coordinates all TA together. Community-Based Public Safety Collective leads on TA for CVI organizations and ASJ leads on organizational development for organizations in the victim services/reentry/mental health space. There is overlap and coordination across these organizations, so the ideal candidate is highly collaborative and a team player adept at working in teams to accomplish the project’s innovative goals.

    What You Will Do

    Technical Assistance Delivery

    • In close coordination with, and under the guidance of, Scaling Safety’s training and technical assistance team, ensure that specified organizations receive the kind of assistance their individual plans identify, including but not limited to, organizational development and/or programmatic capacities such as:
      • Developing back office administrative and organizational functions, building a strong board of directors, onboarding and utilizing relevant technology or data systems to track impact, building new positions and staff capacities, developing strong competencies around skills such as trauma-informed service delivery, and more.
    • Provide direct individualized technical assistance to a range of community-based organizations (CBOs) that offer services such as victim assistance, trauma recovery, reentry, and mental health.
    • Support Scaling Safety program partners in integrating trauma-informed, survivor-centered, and culturally relevant approaches into their work, tailored to meet the unique needs of each organization.
    • Experience with developing concepts for training and technical assistance, including evaluation materials, reports, or briefs.
    • Experience working at a systems level of service delivery; systems change facilitation and implementation.
    • In alignment with the Scaling Safety technical assistance team training and assistance protocols, develop and monitor comprehensive organizational technical assistance plans, and monitor and document technical assistance effectiveness.
    • As needed, offer consultation on program service, service provision, implementation, and sustainability, including strategies for integrating housing and safety efforts.

    Training and Capacity Building

    • Support peer-to-peer learning through communities of practice, webinars, toolkits, and facilitated discussion spaces.
    • Design and facilitate relevant and interactive trainings (virtual and in-person) as needed.
    • Consultancy skills in coaching, training, and advising non-profit organizations.

    Needs Assessment and Strategy Development

    • In coordination with the Scaling Safety technical assistance team, conduct needs assessments with local partners to identify strengths, gaps, and opportunities for improvement.
    • Collaborate with initiative leadership and subject matter experts to co-create strategies that support long-term organizational growth and improved survivor outcomes.

    Collaboration and Relationship Management

    • Build trusting relationships with program partners and other key stakeholders.
    • Coordinate with internal teams and consultants to ensure aligned and effective support.
    • Effectively communicate emerging developments, needs, and other relevant information as needed to support initiative goals.

    Must Haves

    • At least 5 years of experience in victim services, housing advocacy, trauma recovery, trauma-informed practices, or related fields
    • Strong understanding of the various root causes of violence, including the intersections between violence, trauma, and housing insecurity
    • Experience designing and delivering training or technical assistance to nonprofits or public entities
    • Demonstrated ability to engage diverse community partners with cultural relevance.
    • Excellent facilitation, communication, and project management skills
