    About USFUVG

The US Foundation of the University of the Valley of Guatemala (USFUVG) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization whose mission is to support the University of the Valley of Guatemala (UVG), a private, not-for-profit university with three campuses in Guatemala. UVG is dedicated to educating all qualified students, including those from historically marginalized communities. USFUVG’s objectives include raising funds for scholarships and UVG facilities, as well as building our foundation’s endowment (current value ~$5 million).

    About the Position

USFUVG is seeking a part-time (average 20 hours/week) Development and Administrative Director. The position supports the work of the USFUVG board, whose primary goal is to raise funds for scholarships for Guatemalan students who would not otherwise have access to higher education.

We are looking for a self-directed, collaborative development leader with at least three years of proven fundraising and administrative experience who can work independently to grow our donor base, deepen relationships with existing supporters, and liaise between our US community and the leadership and development teams at UVG in Guatemala.

The Development and Administrative Director’s primary responsibility is to increase revenue from individual and institutional donors. They also work with USFUVG board members, the foundation’s part-time comptroller, and Guatemalan colleagues to establish systems and best practices for the foundation’s operations. The role involves a wide set of activities – from leading the foundation’s fundraising strategy, to organizing annual board meetings, to performing administrative tasks. There is significant autonomy in the day-to-day work. As a result, experience, self-direction, self-organization, and willingness to “wear many hats” are necessary for the position.

The position represents an excellent opportunity to build out a fundraising program, lead development strategy, and improve organizational systems. With success, the role could evolve into expanded leadership, potentially progressing into an ED role.

The position is remote, can be located anywhere in the U.S., and reports to the President and Vice-president of the board.

Key Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

    FUNDRAISING

    • Develop and implement USFUVG’s fundraising strategy, including donor prospecting, cultivation, and stewardship
    • Lead USFUVG’s annual giving campaigns and other fundraising initiatives, overseeing all aspects from planning to execution
    • Lead the board’s Development Committee
    • With the support of the Grant Committee, research and apply for U.S. corporate and family foundation grants

    COMMUNICATIONS

    • Draft, design and produce all Foundation communications (newsletters, donor reports, campaign solicitations, donation/tax acknowledgement correspondence, in-kind and letters of gratitude, etc.)
    • Maintain and update USFUVG’s website (Wordpress)
    • Support the Development Committee in launching USFUVG’s social media presence

    EVENT PLANNING

    • Organize, plan, and execute semiannual board meetings: Two in-person meetings (usually spring in Guatemala and fall in Washington DC), and two shorter quarterly virtual meetings
    • With the support of the Development Committee, organize, plan, and execute one or two fundraising/friendraising events each year

    RECORD KEEPING

    • Maintain accurate and timely records of donor interactions and contributions in the organization's CRM database (Salsa Engage)
    • Coordinate with the Comptroller to complete monthly and annual donation reconciliations

    Required Qualifications

    • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university
    • A minimum of 3 years experience in the advancement/development field;
    • Demonstrated track record in nonprofit fundraising, with a focus on individual donor and foundation development
    • Knowledge and understanding of grant writing and customer relationship management platforms
    • Excellent spoken and written communication skills
    • Spanish language skills desired
    • Familiarity with Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), Google Workspace (Gmail, Google Sheets, Google Slides), fundraising CRMs (ideally Salsa Engage) and website management. Familiarity with Canva and/or Adobe Creative Cloud desirable
    • Willingness to travel domestically and to Guatemala

    Desired Characteristics

    • Highly motivated self-starter, able to work independently and develop innovative solutions
    • Strong interpersonal skills, and the ability to work productively with a diverse group of people and personalities
    • Highly organized with excellent project management skills
    • Discreet and able to maintain confidentiality
