    Who We Are

Siskiyou Field Institute’s (SFI) mission is to increase the understanding of and connection to the Klamath-Siskiyou ecoregion through education, scientific research, and public engagement. SFI is where people come to learn about and explore the diverse and ecologically significant Klamath-Siskiyou bioregion—a land of steep mountains, wild rivers, and extraordinary biodiversity. Each year, we provide hands-on field courses for adults, youth environmental education programs, and support scientific research and conservation efforts. SFI is headquartered on the 850-acre Deer Creek Ranch, where we operate our educational facilities, lodging, and event spaces.

The Executive Director (ED) serves as the chief executive officer of SFI, leading the organization in fulfilling its mission and expanding its impact locally, regionally, and nationally. Reporting to the Board of Directors, the ED oversees strategic planning, financial management, program operations, facilities stewardship, staff leadership, and fundraising while managing multiple projects with the support of full-time and seasonal staff and volunteers.

    Key responsibilities include:

    Leadership & Strategy

Implement Board-adopted goals and policies, ensure mission alignment, and guide long-term strategic visioning

    Program Development & Community Engagement

Oversee the development and implementation of education and research programs, expand partnerships, and increase community participation

    Fundraising & Financial Stewardship

Lead fundraising efforts, including grant writing, donor relations, sponsorships, and capital campaigns; manage budgets and financial sustainability

    Staff & HR Management

Cultivate a strong team culture, oversee hiring, training, and evaluations, and ensure compliance with employment laws and best practices

    Land Stewardship & Facilities Management

Oversee the maintenance and use of SFI’s property, buildings, and conservation projects, ensuring sustainability and safety
