    Position Summary

    The part-time Communications Assistant sources and develops meaningful content to be shared with Native Plant Trust audiences, supporting the goals of the communications department in amplifying Native Plant Trust’s mission. This position is responsible for executing marketing and communications strategies to promote the impact of our work, expand our audience, and increase participation in the native plant movement.

    This is a non-exempt, hourly, part-time, year-round, benefit-eligible position based at our headquarters in Wayland, MA. Starting compensation is $25 - $28 hourly rate. The work schedule is Monday - Friday, 10am - 2pm. This position reports to the Communications Manager.

    Primary Responsibilities

    Content development and implementation (60% of time)

    • Source content such as photos, videos, stories, news articles etc. for use on all channels (social media, website, enewsletters).
    • Source, edit, and post video content for use on social media and our website.
    • Support the development of the communications and content calendar each month, sourcing ideas, stories and visual content.
    • Create and schedule social media posts to all Native Plant Trust social media platforms (Instagram, Facebook, Linkedin).
    • Coordinate event promotion and help drive the attendance of a variety of events using both digital and physical tactics including social media promotion, posting to online calendars and listservs, creating Facebook events, implementing signage.
    • Attend Native Plant Trust events to source photo and video content.
    • Support the maintenance of our digital library of photos including the organization of photos in our drive as well as distributing images internally/externally.
    • Support the website team (as needed) in regularly monitoring the website for necessary content and information updates.

    Communications coordination (30% of time)

    • Manage the organization’s communications email inbox by regularly checking for and responding to inquiries, or forwarding to the appropriate team member when necessary.
    • Format and schedule newsletters and standalone emails in Mailchimp.
    • Creating multivariate email tests (A/B tests) in Mailchimp.
    • Maintain email list hygiene by identifying and removing invalid subscribers.
    • Provide administrative support to the communications team, such as setting meetings, taking notes, and following up with key team members.
    • Support internal communications across the organization.

    Design (10% of time)

    • Format press releases in Adobe.
    • Send design files to the printer and place orders of print materials.
    • Provide brand files (such as logos and fonts) internally and externally when necessary.
    • Update the branding on out of date materials with new logo, colors, fonts etc. when/where necessary.
    • Facilitate the use of brand identity standards in relevant works.
    • Create various signs and print materials using pre-existing templates or occasionally providing new designs.
    • Update existing print/marketing materials annually.

    Skills, Experience, Education, and Certifications

    The ideal candidate should have:

    • A relevant bachelor’s degree, preferably in marketing or communications with at least one year of experience or comparable combination of experience and education.
    • Strong written, verbal, and visual communication skills.
    • Strong organizational and project management skills.
    • Excellent collaboration skills with enthusiasm for working across teams.
    • Intermediate graphic design skills using common software including InDesign, Photoshop, Canva, and similar software programs.
    • Proficiency with video creation and video editing.
    • Experience working for a non-profit or mission driven organization preferred.

    • Walk or hike on uneven surfaces.
    • Drive between sites or to event locations.
