    Job Description

    The Community Initiatives Bureau (CIB) of the Boston Public Health Commission operates on the principles of the social determinants of health. We implement policies and services that prevent illness and promote health. We work with community members and organizations, other city agencies, landlords, academic and health care institutions, small businesses, families, and preschool- to college-aged students to make a healthier Boston. This grant-funded position will support projects and initiatives within the Bureau and work closely with the Division of Chronic Disease Prevention and Control, the Division of Environmental and Occupational Health and the Division of Healthy Homes and Community Supports and in collaboration with other BPHC bureaus and offices as well as relevant partner agencies and organizations. Specific projects may change over time. An ideal candidate will have a desire to support BPHC's mission, enjoy working both independently and as part of a team, and thrive in roles with multiple tasks and deadlines in a large office environment interacting with different team members.

    DUTIES:

    • Project manage and implement selected CIB projects and priorities, utilizing project management tools and maintaining accurate and up-to-date records of project progress. Initial priority projects for FY26 are BPHC’s Public Health Excellence grant and Equity in Colon Cancer Early Detection project.
    • Manage project workplans, budgets and grant reporting. Liaise with funders and key partners on progress.
    • Collaborate effectively with staff across CIB, BPHC, other city departments, and external organizations to execute key
    • Represent BPHC at external partner meetings and meetings with project funders.
    • Establish and maintain effective working relationships that value diverse experiences and
    • Draft and produce memos, presentations, reports, flyers, policies, and other forms of communication.
    • Support meetings through planning, notetaking, making presentations, and
    • Support integrating projects with BPHC’s Strategic Plan and Live Long and Well initiative priorities.
    • Work in a confidential capacity with members of the
    • Work to help BPHC become an antiracist organization by meeting or exceeding the standards set by the BPHC Anti-Racism
    • Perform other duties as required.

    Minimum Qualifications

    • Master's degree in public health/ health sciences or related degree, plus 2 years of experience (or bachelor's degree with 5+ years of experience).
    • Commitment to the promotion of health equity, inclusion, and diversity within BPHC and the community.
    • Knowledge of or willingness to learn about the role of public health in addressing racism, the social determinants of health, and inequities in health outcomes as well as strategies to advance racial justice and health equity.
    • Experience with project management principles and tools, including project management
    • Experience managing projects with flexible timeline and iterative
    • Self-directed with ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple priorities simultaneously, including time-sensitive
    • Exceptional communication skills (written and oral) and attention to
    • Demonstrated leadership and interpersonal
    • Ability to handle sensitive information with discretion and maintain confidentiality.
    • Demonstrated ability to work
    • Skill with Windows Office Package (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook, ) and ability to learn new software applications and technology.
    • Familiarity with City of Boston Departments and Community Health Centers preferred.

    • City of Boston residency is required; Allston, Back Bay, Bay Village, Beacon Hill, Brighton, Charlestown, Chinatown, Dorchester, Downtown, East Boston, Fenway-Kenmore, Hyde Park, Jamaica Plain, Mattapan, Mid-Dorchester, Mission Hill, North End, Roslindale, Roxbury, South Boston, South End, West End, West Roxbury, Wharf district.
    • A Criminal Offenders Records Information request must be completed for this position. However, a record is not an automatic bar to employment but is reviewed in relation to the job applied for.

    Shift

    35 hours/week; 9:00 am - 5:00 pm

    Some evenings and weekends may be required.
