Position Summary
The CLCC Farmstand Assistant Manager works with the Sr. Assistant Farmstand Manager in the oversight and leadership of CLCC’s farmstand on its farm in Coventry, CT. The Farmstand Assistant Manager reports to the Sr. Assistant Farmstand Manager, while working closely with other staff to ensure a high quality, profitable farmstand and facilitate meaningful vocational opportunities for adults with developmental disabilities.
Hours & Salary: This seasonal position is approximately 15 hours per week; Sunday and occasional weekdays; April through October, and other days as needed. Salary is commensurate with experience. Working hours and days may vary throughout the season.
The Farmstand Assistant Manager is responsible for assisting the Sr. Assistant Farmstand Manager in the day-to-day operations of the assigned programs and areas to include, but not limited to, the following:
Farmstand Management
- Provide overall management and oversight of farmstand operations when Sr. Assistant Farmstand Manager is not in farmstand or during times of vacation.
- Create flyers, posters, and other documents, promoting Farmstand products and events.
- Assist in the overall appearance and retail layout of farmstand.
- Responsible for point-of-sales cashier) and customer service during farmstand hours of operation.
- Cash management of all retail operations within the farmstand
- Attend the regular Farmstand Operations meeting.
- Ensure freshness of all products in the farmstand
- Provide general supervision of farmstand volunteers or part-time employees with and without disabilities and working with the Farmstand Manager in evaluating employees.
- Overall presentation and cleanliness of farmstand.
Required Knowledge Skills and Abilities
- Effective communication and people skills.
- Strong knowledge of retail, preferably perishable goods
- Strong knowledge of and previous farm and/or farmstand work strongly preferred.
- Ability to create modifications and adaptations for differently abled volunteers and growers.
- Ability to meet deadlines.
- Basic computer skills
- Basic Point-of-Sale (cash register) knowledge
- Ability to perform simple calculations.
- Maintain records and files.
Required Education, Licenses, Certifications or Experiences
- Minimum high school diploma: additional agricultural education strongly preferred.
- Driver’s license and reliable transportation
- Good driving record and appropriate insurance coverage
- Knowledge of and experience with daily farm and farmstand operations; experience growing and selling produce strongly preferred.
- Experience working with and supporting special needs individuals strongly preferred.
- CPR and First Aid Training Physical Requirements
- The ability to lift 15+ pounds regularly (produce, plants, etc.)
- The ability to move safely over uneven terrain or in confined spaces.
- The ability to see and respond to dangerous situations.
- The ability to work in very high (90 degrees) and very low (45 degrees) temperatures.
- Ability to work with soil, water, and other agricultural necessities.
