    Descripción

Chesapeake Climate Action Network seeks an experienced organizer to launch a campus organizing program in the Chesapeake region.

The Federal Organizing Manager will expand the national fight for solar reflection methods (SRM) research by establishing and managing a campus organizing campaign. Reporting to the Federal Director, the Manager will develop messaging and campus organizing strategies, train and supervise field organizers, and build a powerful student movement for climate solutions in the region.

    About Us

Chesapeake Climate Action Network (CCAN) is the only group in the Chesapeake region of Maryland, Virginia, and Washington DC dedicated exclusively to building a powerful grassroots movement to fight climate change. We envision an equitable energy future where truly clean sources of power — solar, wind, and geothermal — sustain every aspect of our lives, efficiency is prioritized, and fossil fuels have been phased out.

We are working on bold campaigns that would result in energy policies matching the scale of the climate crisis. Since 2002, we have been pushing the envelope of what’s “politically possible” in the Chesapeake region and beyond, using every tool inside and outside the box—from organizing to lobbying to the law.

    What You Will Do

The primary responsibilities of the position include:

    • Staff Management: Provide direct supervision to two entry-level campus organizers through weekly individual check-ins, team meetings, and performance management. This includes training on basic organizing skills including story of self, us, and now, developing work plans, and time management.
    • Organizing: Help envision CCAN’s campus organizing campaign, including strategies, tactics, and ambitious, realistic goals. Conduct initial outreach and relationship building to establish CCAN’s presence on university campuses.
    • Training and capacity building: Collaborate with CCAN’s organizing leadership to build training curriculum and pedagogy for staff and volunteers to develop organizing skills.

    Qualifications

    • Commitment to the mission of fighting climate change and promoting environmental justice.
    • Three to five years of professional or volunteer organizing experience, with a preference for campus or youth organizing experience.
    • At least one year of staff management experience, including setting goals, coaching, problem-solving, and time management.
    • Experience and comfort with public speaking.
    • Event planning and management experience.
    • Self-motivated and able to track multiple ongoing tasks and deadlines, prioritizing measurable results.
    • Able to collaborate and work effectively with a team.
    • Experience setting measurable goals and tracking progress.
    • Problem-solver: someone who thinks of solutions more than barriers.
    • A valid driver's license.
    • Lobbying experience is helpful but not required.

Don’t meet every single requirement? We are dedicated to building a diverse, inclusive, and authentic workplace and value lived and work experience; therefore, if you’re excited about this role, but your experience doesn’t align perfectly with every qualification in the job description, we encourage you to apply! You might be the perfect candidate for this or another role at CCAN.
