Position Overview
The Community Schools strategy offers a holistic approach toward improving social emotional learning and academic performance driven by strong, collaborative partnerships among principals, parents, teachers, and partner community-based organizations (CBOs). In Community Schools, parents are active partners, the school climate is joyful and positive, and expanded learning opportunities are standard. Community Schools organize resources and share leadership to integrate social services into the fabric of the school; they are equipped to better serve the needs of families so that students come ready and able to learn. An integral part of this approach is the integration and alignment of school- and community-based services throughout an expanded learning day (such as mental health, counseling, and academic enrichment). Critical to ensuring this alignment and coordination is effective implementation support provided by dedicated staff who work collaboratively to operationalize the community school vision – including the Assistant Community School Director (ACSD).
The ACSD is responsible for assisting with the management and implementation of all activities that are program, attendance, and school culture related with the Community School model at Long Island City High School. They work in close collaboration with the Community School Director to ensure smooth operations of existing programming while supporting data collection, budget monitoring, and communication coordination. In addition, the ACSD supports the coordination of various partner organizations subcontracted by Zone 126 to facilitate programs and provide supportive services.
The ACSD reports directly to the Community School Director with a close working relationship with the 21st Century After School Program Director. The ACSD is a reliable operational partner, relationship builder, and program coordinator ensuring high quality implementation of programming and services for the youth we serve.
