    Position Overview

    The Community Schools strategy offers a holistic approach toward improving social emotional learning and academic performance driven by strong, collaborative partnerships among principals, parents, teachers, and partner community-based organizations (CBOs). In Community Schools, parents are active partners, the school climate is joyful and positive, and expanded learning opportunities are standard. Community Schools organize resources and share leadership to integrate social services into the fabric of the school; they are equipped to better serve the needs of families so that students come ready and able to learn. An integral part of this approach is the integration and alignment of school- and community-based services throughout an expanded learning day (such as mental health, counseling, and academic enrichment). Critical to ensuring this alignment and coordination is effective implementation support provided by dedicated staff who work collaboratively to operationalize the community school vision – including the Assistant Community School Director (ACSD).

    The ACSD is responsible for assisting with the management and implementation of all activities that are program, attendance, and school culture related with the Community School model at Long Island City High School. They work in close collaboration with the Community School Director to ensure smooth operations of existing programming while supporting data collection, budget monitoring, and communication coordination. In addition, the ACSD supports the coordination of various partner organizations subcontracted by Zone 126 to facilitate programs and provide supportive services.

    The ACSD reports directly to the Community School Director with a close working relationship with the 21st Century After School Program Director. The ACSD is a reliable operational partner, relationship builder, and program coordinator ensuring high quality implementation of programming and services for the youth we serve. They cultivate and forge positive relationships with a variety of stakeholders, contributing to collective support and raising awareness of the Zone 126 cradle to college to career approach.

    Essential Responsibilities:

    • Assist the Community School Director in identifying, planning, and implementing partnerships that align to moving school goals, along with organizational goals
    • Supporting the Community School Director and the Principal with implementing a Needs Assessment to ensure that current partners are in alignment to support school and organizational goals
    • Support the Community School Director with assessing the site budget, and future planning to ensure accurate spending
    • Support Community School Director in developing communication to the school community, students/families, and others to ensure activities are well promoted and attended
    • Support Community School Director in ensuring that data is collected on time and provided to the Data Outcomes Coordinator to ensure that program implementation is successful
    • Foster strong relationships with effective communication and collaboration with students, parents, school staff, partners, and Zone 126 colleagues
    • Work with school administration to develop and implement annual goals that are part of the school’s Comprehensive Educational Plan (CEP) and grant goals
    • Develops, maintains and nurtures relationships with the school administration so as to operationalize the partnership
    • Leads efforts to promote Community School programming through social media channels such as Instagram, highlighting student opportunities (e.g., scholarships, internships, events) to increase visibility and engagement with a broader school and community audience.

    Qualifications, Skills and Knowledge Requirements

    • Bachelor’s degree in social work, education, public administration, or non-profit required
    • 3-5 years working experience within a NYC public school, and/or education non-profit setting, specifically in the community school setting, after-school setting or within youth development, or doing home visiting (strongly preferred)
    • Previous experience working with diverse population
    • Demonstrated record of meeting and exceeding goals and positively impacting children, families, and the community
    • Capacity to develop creative and innovative solutions to support students and families
    • Superior interpersonal and communication skills, both oral and written
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), Outlook and Google)

    Reporting Structure & Relationships:

    • The Assistant Community School Director will report directly to the Community School Director with a close working relationship with the 21st Century After School Program Director

    Work Location and Schedule

    • Full-Time Exempt, Year-Round
    • Must be available Monday through Friday, 10 AM to 6 PM
    • On-site at Long Island City High School (14-30 Broadway Long Island City, NY 11106)
    • (Special event support on weekends and after school hours required; advanced notice will be provided).

    Salary and Benefits

    • Annual base salary $65,000
