    The Data Sciences degree programs offer foundational knowledge in a range of IT disciplines to undergraduate students, and knowledge of statistical analysis, machine learning, programming, and model development to graduate students. The group is committed to delivering a student-centered, practical, and innovative learning experience that prepares graduates for careers in analytics, AI, and applied data science.

    Duties and Responsibilities:

    Reporting to the Program Manager, the Data Science Program Assistant/College Assistant will support administrative, operational and student-facing functions for the program and will perform the following duties:

    • Support the Program Manager with semester-based Brightspace LMS course preparation, including copying course sites, standardizing course calendars, organizing course materials and tracking course-site readiness
    • Assist with reviewing syllabi and instructional materials for completeness and alignment with established accessibility and formatting requirements.
    • Serve as an informed point of contact, both in person and virtually, for prospective students seeking general information about undergraduate and graduate programs.
    • Provide routine administrative and program support to students, faculty, adjunct instructors, and program staff.
    • Monitor the program email account; respond to routine inquiries and appropriately route matters requiring additional assistance.
    • Collect, organize, and maintain semester course syllabi, faculty records, and related program documentation.
    • Assist students with routine registration matters, course permissions, and prerequisite verification in coordination with academic advisors and program staff.
    • Provide logistical and administrative support for program events and activities, including hackathons, data challenges, workshops, and guest speaker sessions.
    • Participate in program meetings and assist with meeting documentation, action-item tracking, and follow-up activities.
    • Maintain organized electronic and program files related to student progress, degree requirements, curricular pathways, and elective offerings.
    • Assist with compiling and maintaining program data, including enrollment, retention, graduation, and student engagement information.
    • Support data collection, recordkeeping, and preparation of materials for program assessment, accreditation, reporting, and continuous improvement initiatives.
    • Perform related duties as assigned.

    Preferred Minimum Qualification:

    • High school diploma/GED

    Preferred Qualifications:

    • Experience providing administrative or academic support in a higher education setting
    • Bachelor’s degree or some college coursework from an accredited college or university (data science, computer science, statistics, or related field preferred)
    • Experience with online learning environments and hybrid program delivery
    • Strong attention to detail, accuracy, and organizational skills, particularly when handling data and documentation
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain technical information clearly to diverse audiences
    • Experience analyzing qualitative and quantitative data and producing reports or summaries
    • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, with advanced attention to Excel (pivot tables, data cleaning, basic analysis)
    • Familiarity with or willingness to learn institutional and academic systems such as Bright Space, CUNYfirst, DegreeWorks, Coursedog, Navigate and Akademos
    • Ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and adapt to evolving needs in a fast-paced academic environment
    • Interest in supporting data-driven decision-making and program evaluation

    Compensación

    CUNY offers a comprehensive benefits package to employees and eligible dependents based on job title and classification. Employees are also offered pension and Tax-Deferred Savings Plans. Part-time employees must meet a weekly or semester work hour criteria to be eligible for health benefits. Health benefits are also extended to retirees who meet the eligibility criteria.
