    Overview

The Volunteer Engagement Specialist develops and sustains a strong pipeline of individual and corporate volunteers to support the Little Bit mission. This position leads recruitment, onboarding, training, and recognition efforts that promote meaningful engagement and long-term retention. Guided by a commitment to accessibility, equity, and PATH Intl. safety standards, the Specialist ensures that every volunteer experience is positive, mission-aligned, and contributes to program success.

    Key Responsibilities

    Volunteer Recruitment & Outreach

    • Plan and execute outreach to schools, corporations, and community partners, representing Little Bit at engagement events, volunteer fairs, and other opportunities.
    • Design inclusive messaging and accessible pathways for diverse volunteers.
    • Lead volunteer recruitment and support for major events including the annual auction, horse shows, golf tournament, and community parades. Act as the primary liaison between development/program staff and volunteers for event coverage.

    Onboarding & Training

      • Facilitate volunteer orientations; coordinate Paddock and Leader Trainings with program staff to ensure alignment with program needs.
      • Publish and maintain a predictable training calendar, coordinating pre-work, reminders, follow-up, and record-keeping in Salesforce.
    • Ensure clear role instructions, emphasize safety, and foster equitable learning environments.

    Volunteer Engagement & Retention

    • Coordinate recognition initiatives, including events, milestones, volunteer spotlights, and storytelling.
    • Conduct regular check-ins with volunteers to troubleshoot barriers and coach into advanced roles.
    • Gather feedback (pulse surveys, exit interviews) and close the loop with improvements.
    • Serve as the primary point of contact for volunteers during evening hours.

    Communication & Administration

      • Produce timely volunteer communications (newsletters, updates, social posts).
    • Collaborate with team members to ensure smooth volunteer coverage.
    • Cross-train to cover core duties during absences or exceptionally busy periods.
    • Maintain confidentiality in compliance with HIPAA and Little Bit policies.

    Qualifications

      • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in nonprofit management, education, community engagement, or related field.
    • 2+ years’ experience in volunteer management, community programs, or training/facilitation.
    • Excellent relationship-building, group facilitation, and communication skills (written, verbal, presentation).
    • Demonstrated commitment to equity, inclusion, and accessibility; experience adapting materials and delivery.
    • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
      • The work environment involves exposure to outdoor elements and occurs around horses. The role requires minor physical exertion, including standing and walking on uneven ground.
      • Proficiency with technology, including MS Office and Salesforce.
      • U.S. citizen or valid resident/work permit.
    • Occasional evenings/weekends for events, trainings, and recognition activities.
    • Valid driver’s license for local partner/outreach travel.
    • Background check required; CPR/First Aid preferred (or willingness to obtain).

Nice to have: PATH Intl. familiarity; experience in adaptive/therapeutic, equine, or recreation settings; bilingual skills.
