    About Ecology Project International

    EPI is an international non-profit organization dedicated to addressing critical conservation issues through field-based partnerships between local experts and high school students. We engage adolescent youth from local communities and youth and teachers from around the world in applied hands-on science and conservation as they learn about and help protect threatened species and habitats. Through EPI’s programs in five countries throughout the U.S. and Latin America, participants are inspired and empowered to engage in conservation efforts at home and worldwide to become the next generation of conservation leaders.     Job Summary

    The Philanthropy Coordinator supports Ecology Project International’s fundraising efforts by managing donor operations and data, coordinating campaigns, and stewarding a small portfolio of donors. The ideal candidate is highly organized, detail-oriented, comfortable working with data and systems, and motivated by supporting conservation and youth development through philanthropy.

    At Ecology Project International, fundraising and philanthropy are about creating opportunities for young people to engage directly in conservation and science. The Philanthropy Coordinator helps build the relationships, finds the resources, and supports the donor systems that make these experiences possible.

    Key Responsibilities and Duties

    Approximately 70% of the role focuses on donor operations, data management, reporting, and campaign support, and 30% on donor stewardship.

    Donor Operations & Gift Management

    • Process and record donations in CRM from entry through reconciliation.
    • Coordinate with Finance to ensure accurate gift tracking, audit form completion, and reporting.
    • Generate reports and dashboards to support fundraising strategy.
    • Maintain clear workflows in CRM and project management tools.
    • Maintain donor records, mailing lists, and Development reports.
    • Manage in-kind donation inventory, tracking, and distribution.
    • Support implementation and tracking of Development campaigns and events.

    Donor Stewardship

    • Conduct outreach, including calls, emails, and personalized follow-up.
    • Coordinate with Individual Giving team members on donor giving level progression and portfolio member hand-offs.
    • Collaborate with Alumni team, volunteers, and Programs teams to cultivate donors.
    • Collaborate with Program staff to learn about EPI’s conservation and education initiatives and share impact stories with donors and supporters.

    Required Qualifications and Skills

    • Bachelor’s degree or one year of experience in a similar position in nonprofit administrative support, fundraising, or a related field.
    • English proficiency
    • Exceptional organizational skills and ability to manage multiple projects, deadlines, and priorities simultaneously.
    • Strong attention to detail and commitment to data accuracy.
    • Ability to analyze fundraising data, generate reports, and identify trends that support decision-making.
    • Comfort working with databases, spreadsheets, and CRM systems.
    • Ability to create and maintain organized systems and workflows.
    • Excellent verbal and written communication and customer service skills.
    • Ability to engage donors and prospects verbally and in writing with sincerity and enthusiasm.
    • Ability to work effectively in a multicultural and dynamic environment.

    Desired Qualifications and Skills

    • Previous experience working in a nonprofit organization.
    • Experience with donor management software (Such as Salesforce or Bloomerang) and task management systems (Such as Asana or Trello).
    • B1 Spanish proficiency (Common European Framework of Reference for Languages)

    Reports To

    Philanthropy Manager

    Direct Reports

    May coordinate and provide direction to volunteers supporting fundraising projects and events.

    Schedule & Location

    • Full-time: 40 hours/week (typical office hours 9:00am–5:00pm)
    • Candidates must be located in La Paz, Mexico, or San José, Costa Rica, or be able to work in the US, preferably in Missoula, Montana.
    • Occasional travel to field sites or conferences may be required
    • Hybrid work schedule is possible depending on qualifications and organizational needs

    Compensation

    • United States (Missoula): Salary range is $42,881.00 –$45,550.00 USD per year, DOE.
    • Costa Rica: Compensation for this role follows local salary bands and ranges around a monthly gross salary of approximately $1,850.00 USD, DOE.
    • México (La Paz, Baja California Sur):Compensation for this role follows local salary bands and ranges around a monthly gross salary of approximately $24,300.00 MXN, DOE.

    This position also provides a generous benefits package, including 32 days of paid time off per year, health insurance, a retirement plan, and funds for professional development. Packages can differ depending on the regulations of each country.
