Job Title: Marketing & Development Manager
UNRAVEL PEDIATRIC CANCER We are a passionate family founded non-profit committed to making a significant impact in the fight against childhood cancer. Our small but mighty team works closely to fund innovative research to ultimately change the landscape of childhood cancer. We are seeking a highly motivated and versatile Marketing & Development Manager to be a driving force in growing our reach, engaging our community, and securing the vital resources needed to advance our mission.
Position Summary: Must live in the California Bay Area.
The Marketing & Development Manager is a critical, hands-on role responsible for planning, executing, and overseeing Unravel’s fundraising (development) and communications (marketing) efforts. This individual will be instrumental in building brand awareness, cultivating donor relationships, managing campaigns, and ensuring the financial sustainability necessary to support research needed to unravel childhood cancer.
Key Responsibilities:
I. Development & Fundraising (Approx. 60%):
- Fundraising Strategy & Management:
- Develop, implement, and manage a comprehensive annual fundraising plan, including goals, strategies, and timelines for diverse revenue streams (individual giving, corporate sponsorships).
- Oversee annual giving campaigns (e.g., year-end appeals, Giving Tuesday, monthly donor programs) from concept to execution and reporting.
- Identify, research, and qualify prospective individual donors and corporate partners.
- Develop compelling proposals, presentations, and solicitation materials tailored to various donor segments.
- Track fundraising progress against goals, prepare regular reports for the Executive Director and Board, and analyze data to inform future strategies.
Corporate Partnerships:
- Identify, research, and cultivate relationships with prospective corporate partners whose values align with our mission.
- Develop tailored sponsorship proposals and partnership opportunities (e.g., event sponsorships, cause marketing initiatives, employee giving programs).
- Steward corporate partners through regular communication, impact reporting, and appropriate recognition to ensure long-term engagement and investment.
Donor Relations & Stewardship:
- Cultivate and steward meaningful relationships with prospective individual donors through personalized communication and engaging stewardship strategies.
- Ensure timely, heartfelt, and personalized acknowledgment of all gifts, demonstrating their direct contribution to research and family support.
- Maintain the donor database (CRM system) to ensure accurate records, efficient gift processing, and robust reporting.
II. Marketing & Communications (Approx. 40%):
- Brand Management & Messaging:
- Develop and maintain consistent brand messaging, voice, and visual identity across all communication channels.
- Craft compelling narratives and impact stories that effectively communicate the organization's mission, programs, and the real-life impact on childhood cancer patients and families.
- Content Creation & Management:
- Develop and create engaging content for various platforms, including website, blog posts, email newsletters, annual reports, brochures, presentations, and press releases.
- Oversee website content updates, ensuring accuracy, relevance, and a positive user experience.
- Manage and enhance the organization's social media presence (e.g., Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, X), developing content calendars and engagement strategies.
- Marketing Strategy & Analytics:
- Develop and implement marketing strategies to increase brand awareness, drive engagement, and support fundraising goals.
- Monitor and analyze marketing performance metrics (website traffic, social media engagement, email open rates, campaign ROI) to optimize strategies.
Qualifications:
- Minimum of 3-5 years of progressive experience in marketing, communications, and/or development roles, with a preference for non-profit experience.
- Demonstrated success in fundraising, including experience with individual giving, corporate partnerships.
- Proficiency in managing and leveraging CRM/donor database software (e.g., Raiser's Edge,Blackbaud).
- Experience with digital marketing tools, including social media platforms, email marketing software (e.g., Mailchimp, Constant Contact), and website content management systems (CMS).
- Highly organized, detail-oriented, and able to manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously in a fast-paced environment.
- Self-motivated, proactive, and able to work both independently and collaboratively within a small team.
- Strong analytical skills to interpret data and make informed decisions..
- Ability to occasionally work evenings and weekends.
Preferred (but not required):
- Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Communications, Fundraising, Non-profit Management, or a related field.
- Experience with graphic design software (e.g., Canva, Adobe Creative Suite).
- History of successful remote work.
- Familiarity with SEO best practices and Google Analytics.
- Prior experience in the childhood cancer or healthcare non-profit sector.
