    The Director of Community Engagement (DCE) is a new role designed to provide a coordinated focus on program operations and a targeted emphasis on community collaborations. This role will be responsible for the development of efficiencies, strategies and best practices that will improve and sustain the internal activities and external partnerships of the organization. The objectives of this new role is to facilitate clear communications, to streamline operational protocols and to generate supportive opportunities for mission growth and service expansion. As a member of the BSL Management team, they will serve as a key community Ambassador.

    DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Serve as the lead BSL Liaison between staff, volunteers, interns, community stakeholders and our executive leadership team to encourage fair and equitable representation of ideas, communications, employee well-being, organizational culture and community relations.
    • Provide direct supervision and oversight for BSL Guest Relations, Faith & Spiritual Wellness, and Restorative Services (Mail/Clothing/Hygiene) operations and teams.
    • Support staff and evaluate job performance against mission alignment, and identify relevant skill building and team building activities to deepen curiosity and learning.
    • Orient staff to and enforce BSL policies and practices as it relates to workplace conduct, acceptable interpersonal skills and expectations of radical hospitality and accountability.
    • Manage special projects and strategic initiatives such as: Civic Engagement, Community Outreach, Partner Programs, Arts projects and our Faith & Spiritual Wellness program.
    • Serve as lead facilitator of the BSL De-escalation Training Program. Manages the training schedule and inquiries from community stakeholders and others.
    • Coordinates with our on-site partner programs (Philly Fight, HAP, Horizon House, etc.) regarding scheduling, space, guest services and other supports as needed.
    • Provide centralized coordination of BSL program operations to ensure consistency across all program areas and enforce policies and protocols as determined by BSL leadership.
    • Works closely Chief Program Officer on daily management of programs and services.
    • Assist with various projects, strategic and long-term planning initiatives for BSL brand
    • Assist leadership team in decision-making and program management and development
    • Maintains strong diplomatic and problem-solving skills to support daily operations
    • Assist CPO and Director of Clinical Services with hosting student interns and coordinating assignments within BSL programs and services
    • Works closely with development, finance, kitchen and volunteer departments as needed
    • Serves a BSL lead for building & safety protocols and works with building maintenance team to ensure enforcement of safety measures
    • Assist CPO with annual budget and grants management process to help support equitable distribution of financial resources for program operations
    • Represent BSL at various community coalitions and collaboration meetings with the focus on aligning our mission with new opportunities.
    • Work with BSL staff and leadership to outline work scope, performance indicators and metrics to assess program effectiveness, adjusting to optimize outcomes.
    • Collaborates with CPO in the management of data collection and reporting. Responsible for establishing quality assurance standards for staff in the process of data entry.
    • Familiar with functions and features of the Apricot database including troubleshooting end-users issues. Maintain protocols for data collection and reporting.
    • Assist executive leadership team on various assignments and tasks as needed.

    QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS:

    • Minimum of six (6) years professional experience managing multiple teams, while overseeing the staffing, administrative, budgetary, operational, and data-reporting needs of multiple simultaneous projects.
    • Minimum of four (4) years of experience working directly with individuals experiencing deep poverty, housing and food insecurity, mental illness and the impact of mass incarceration.
    • Individuals who have been directly impacted by deep poverty, trauma, and/or the criminal legal system are especially encouraged to apply.
    • Demonstrated track record and competence in program management and supervision.
    • Openness to working in a fast-paced environment with guests and staff from diverse racial, cultural, and socio-economic backgrounds.
    • Strong written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills, solid ethical and professional boundaries, and strong organizational skills.
    • Detail-oriented and data-driven with excellent organizational skills.
    • Knowledge of and willingness to learn more about best practices in non-profit human resources, governance, communications, and finance.
    • Ability to write and speak about agency programs and mission in a compelling way across a variety of stakeholders (neighbors, providers, funders, volunteers, etc).
    • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to collaborate across departments.
    • Possess a can-do attitude and an extreme dedication to efficiency.
    • Excellent time management, multi-tasking and project management skills.
    • Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to develop creative solutions.
    • Self-motivated, self-sufficient and highly reliable.
